And that feeling (after a start that had some concerns) I can honestly say hand on heart that I am not missing any player we released over the summer, some of those released I loved more than others, a few I would have loved to have stayed but it wasn't to be, no matter where we finish this season I absolutely think one of the craziest things done by a manager of our club in my 44 year ( and counting) following and 33 years at Portman Road watching us history was the right thing to do for Ipswich Town Football Club!!

It does amuse me that our 2020/21 striker signing for a L1 promotion push is now, more often than not, starting as a centre half for a L2 club.

If Colchester win their next game they’ll have made the exact same start as us - 17 points from 13 games

Except they're in League 2, so not exactly the same at all.

Still, L2, so massive step down for some of them and where they were.

Only really Chambers and Judge who had started regularly and had offers from clubs in higher divisions.

Colchester chairman seems to be running the club into the ground - their lowest attendance for 20 odd years, nothing at all on matchday, not allowed to sit near people, can't choose seats or anything.

I was going to head along for a game but just so much hassle - and think watching Frank Nouble up front on his own would send me over the edge

There is nothing wrong with enjoying seeing our ex-players doing well and it is not mutually exclusive from either us succeeding or it still being the right thing for us as a club and them as players.

I have no doubt it was in the best interests of player and club in both of those cases.

That’s the way I see it. I’ve always been interested in how ex players are doing with their moves, and it in no way detracts from my support of Town.

I always like to see them do well.. unless they’ve in some way found themselves at Norwich.

If they're not even good enough for Colchester then that's Cook vindicated I'd say. I thought they were meant to be title contenders.

The bookies had them somewhere between 15th and 17th at start of the season so you should have backed them if thought they would be title contenders!

As someone else said, they are not Ipswich players anymore so really no point in missing or bothering about them. I will always have a soft spot for Bishop (shame about his injuries), Skuse and Chambers were good servants and always gave their all for the club, Downes has a lot of talent and also showed passion and good attitude up until Premier League interest started to show, Judge a good player even if he probably had his best days behind him when he joined us.
Sears, Dozzell, bundle of loan players..not really bothered.
The thing is the club has needed the massive changes, both on and off the field. You never know if it will work out in the end, but we have owners that seem to be here for quite a few years and wiling to invest. We have hope.

I thought them signing a couple was a good move - realistically with Eastman and Smith there didn't think Chambers was the best signing they could make - but when they signed all of them, it's just such a lack of energy and youth in the team.

Think one where individually they were probably all upgrades on what they had - but when you look at the picture they've got a spine of their team with just no pace or youth in it.

They've conceded 12 in 12 which is fine, but only scored 9 and can anyone see Sears and Nouble really changing that?

When you see what we have now, to think Sears would come off the bench and muster up nothing weekly.
i feel for colu having to watch them two up top

Sears problem is he is the sort of player you bring on to help see out a game, rather than win one - which ins't ideal if you are an attacker!

It's amazing really when you consider they've all stepped down a division, and will also not have the gelling issues, that they're not tearing up that league. Even with youth not on their side, the extra quality and experience you'd think would be enough to get them past League 2 cloggers. I don't know League 2 much but I can't imagine there's a lot of quality down there.

It seems less surprising now that neither Lambert or Cook could get much out of them in the league above.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Tearing up the league? it's Dad's Army down there on a pension pay day.

Very well getting a few experienced heads in, but to load it with ageing players without adding a mix of youth in there was always going to be a struggle.

Interestingly our record against sides who were in League 2 just a few months ago reads played 3, won 0, drawn 1, lost 2. We've shipped 9 goals and scored 5 in those games. Maybe it's a tougher league than we give it credit for.

I wouldn’t.

They both strike me as really genuine, down-to-earth, good guys. But…

They needed to go for the sake of the club and for a positive change of mentality. Life at Ipswich town had become far too comfortable for everyone involved and it was like a small town care home, with little heartbeat and a depressing daily predictability.

Both those players had been part of a club failing over a very long period and then choose to go to colchester!?! That’s like going from wearing jogging bottoms to pyjamas. I would’ve been more impressed if they’d decided to go somewhere completely new and unpredictable but, to me, this showed me their current level of ambition and drive.

We are definitely best rid.

I don't think it is that big a surprise, there's little difference between league 1 and League 2 when you get outside the top 8-10 of this division.

Out of those that dropped down, only Chambers and Judge started regularly for us, Sears was not the same player post injury, Skuse started one game last season and mad that he got a 2 year deal at his age. They still have the rest of the team to gel with.

Whilst it is 'Ipswich old boys' - Gerken can't get in the team, Eastman played for us a decade ago, Smith left a few years back.
