This 4 year old looks amazing on 08:48 - Oct 21 by Chrisd | Personally, I find this sort of thing really sad to read. This lad has clearly got a lot of talent, allow it to blossom by letting him enjoy playing with his friends without any pressure from the involvement of professional clubs. At his age, he should be having fun playing, this is where I feel we go wrong in this country. There’s too much pressure and expectation on youngsters at such a young age, which impacts on them later and I appreciate this can also come from the child’s parents too, pushing too hard and too soon. That’s my view for what it’s worth, I’ll climb down from my soapbox now. [Post edited 21 Oct 2021 8:57]

Sadly many parents are absolutely obsessed with trying to get their kids attached to a club.

If anyone is putting pressure on it'll be his parents - none of this would be done without their say so |
True, but whose to say he will? I still feel it’s far too young regardless of his ability to be under that umbrella. My lad was at an Academy with a pro club when he was 11/12, so a lot older than this young man, we’d be turning up for most training sessions and matches he’d be really upset and withdrawn in the car, a different lad to what he was like during the week at school or out with his mates. We decided even then it was too pressurised and after talking with him we decided to take him away from that environment, he doesn’t play anymore by choice, but that is his decision and he’s comfortable with that. The fundamental thing is for youngsters they need to be enjoying and having fun with whatever they are undertaking and that’s why I’d let this young lad stay with his friends and play games with them for the time being, the rest will come naturally as he develops and more importantly if he wants to carry on playing football.

All kids are different though, it's not one size fits all and whilst your Son didn't enjoy it and you made what you felt as best decision as parents then you have to trust this kids ones to do the same

Yes, I agree, but there’s a number of very good reasons why lots of talented youngsters don’t make the grade. So let him enjoy it now before it’s all coached out of him, that’s where you’re going to see the best of him, there’s plenty of time for all that other nonsense. [Post edited 21 Oct 2021 12:23]

Alright captain pedantic. He's 4 in the headline, he was scouted and signed by Arsenal aged 4 and he's 4 all through the video (several people mention it including himself) and then at the end it says "having just turned 5 other teams are interested..."
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

This 4 year old looks amazing on 10:43 - Oct 21 by Chrisd | He's 4 years old Joe, it doesn't matter that he's head and shoulders above most his age. There's no guarantee he's going to make it either as good as he is now. There's going to be plenty of obstacles and temptations he's going to need to overcome as he grows up, he's just playing on raw ability and he's clearly got plenty of that. So, allow him to flourish, play in a team with his mates, score a few goals in weekend games and enjoy it. The scouts can monitor him as he begins to get older and word would be getting around. He might get to 6 and decide to play or do something else and that's why I find this so bizarre. It'll be the pressure that is put on him by other stakeholders that I would be worrying about, just unhealthy and not needed. |
I remember someone asking a keepy uppy champion who could do anything with a football, trick shots etc why he wasn't playing. He said he got to about 13 and realised that while he could do all that he wasn't actually much good at the game.
This 4 year old looks amazing on 22:15 - Oct 21 with 336 views | flibbertigibbet | This is simply ridiculous. Considering they aren’t supposed to play in any kind of match until they reach their 6th birthday, he should be just playing skills games and enjoying time with his friends. There’s a reason The FA make the age 6 rule and it’s focussed on what’s best for the child. The pro clubs are treating him as a commodity, his parents think he’s going to be rich and famous and his childhood will be ruined by the promise of being the next Ronaldo. He might decide he prefers athletics or ballet in a few years but he will never be able to explore other interests, he’s already on a enforced pathway set up by greedy agents and clubs focussed on his net worth. It’s very sad.
