There will be even less seats with what they want to do to the dug out area! They're going to be huge and be much more spaced apart.

Is that because of the unoccupied "buffer zones"? The official capacity is widely reported as 30,311.

He's been watching too much of Charlie Methven on Sunderland til I die - this feels so much like their Christmas campaign.

I think they actually achieved something like 31,000 for a Boxing Day game v Bradford

And further back into the stand than they are now. Think there may be a few people unhappy at having to move.

Aren’t there about 29,900 seats but you then lose 600. Due to segregation?

That was before the seats were taken out in the corner section between the Cobbold and Sir Alf. I've asked a few times what the official capacity is these days but will ask again.

Did that lose many seats? I can't picture where they would have gone from. I used to walk past there every match when we did Life's a Pitch from the bar in the Cobbold Stand.

It has been something which has been on the cards for some time. Several managers have wanted changes but obviously sufficient funds are in place now. From what was said on Monday at the fans' forum, it sounds like it'll be done along with the pitch work.

Maybe 50 or so, it was a weird little area of seats, like a private area as it had barriers around it.

Which is why I think the England game was the only one actually over 30,000. I should add I’ve been in that ground when it was smaller and there were 38,000 there

Who was that against? When i started going we had capacity for that but were on a downward trajectory and managing just over a third of that - the John Duncan effect!

Why were those even taken out? Could be potential for that to be a safe standing area, no?

If you mean the 38,000+ it was against Leeds in the quarters of the F.A. Cup in 1975, I believe.

We also lost a few when the dugouts were expanded in 2007.

New Dugouts for Town 1st Mar 2007 11:14
Portman Road's dugouts will undergo a major overhaul in the summer, leading to a number of season ticket holders being forced to switch seats. The change is being made due to health and safety concerns regarding the current arrangements. 1

There were at least two in the Royle days over 30,000 - Norwich at home in 2003/04 was one https://prideofanglia.com/page.php?page=matchReport&level=1&day=21&m

Plus West Ham in the playoffs the next season. It still baffles me how they squeezed so many in and managed to segregate the West Ham fans, who were given a section of the Churchman’s.
