Opposition teams and sh!thousery time wasting tactics 12:00 - Dec 5 with 1456 viewsunstableblue

Moving off the Cook sacking and the high risk Ashton is about to decimate our club

The time wasting and faking injuries we are seeing at Portman Road this season is the worst I can remember.

Town did improve second half yesterday and hats off to the North Stand it responded.

But as soon as we started to press and create some waves of pressure, Barrows players started dropping like flies. The keeper went down with a shoulder, that he then used freely. He was also kicking from a run up at the North Stand wall. And yet he kicked as far from 3 paces. Etc etc etc

Oxford did exactly the same.

At least we had 6 mins yesterday.

It needs to be looked and also Ipswich need to realise you have to GO EARLY, aim to score in the first half

But if we'd have done that same thing at least 6 times this season, we'd probably be sitting in the league table with 12 more points. Too nice Ipswich.

Unstable. What makes you see it as high risk.

Wasn't keeping PC high risk.

What is the risk actually....

Phil - please do ask Ashton about what he sees as the club structure and the… by unstableblue 5 Dec 2021 12:12
… spans of control

Liam Manning and Hogg are my preferred to replace Cook, but too unproven I imagine

But critically you talked about the new appointment being the head coach in our new structure?!

We don’t have a new structure or have been through the diligence and strategy change needed

MK Dons did the below, prior to Manning joining, and it’s working

We have Ashton and Rolls which is not the same thing.

I know I’m banging on about this, but I’m seeing huge risk here

Chris - Ashton is not a proven football CEO, in fact he has a very questionable record, however I was quite comfortable with his role here… when the O’Leary, Ashton and Cook demarcations were clear

Phil is now talking about a head coach in a new structure.. we do not have such a structure in place

AND I am concerned at Ashton increasing his influence on the footballing side of the business

I also am not sure how Ashtons reputation and this loosely defined span of control is going to help us recruit what HAS TO BE THE RIGHT MAN

It’s endemic in the game as a whole, not just at PR and is a bugbear of mine as well….. Barrow suddenly became VERY injury prone as the game went on.

Refs are far too weak to do anything about it, meaninglessly waving their arms about and then booking the GK in the 95th minute.

My mate came up with a good idea yesterday…. If a player gets booked for time wasting, another offence by the same team is then a straight red.

What influence does he have that you know of other than norwood tweet.

The Norwoood tweet is a red herring. And I shouldn’t have connected Ashton future concerns to it.

Albeit it would be helpful to understand if Rolls/Ashton mandated Norwood should be ostracised,

See replies to Phil to understand my concerns on club structure and Ashton potential influence on footballing matters.

Ashton should only approve and execute a recruitment plan, not decide upon it… stick to commercials

Football should do what they do in Rugby , stop the clock for any injury stoppages , then there wouldn't be much point in faking injury , apart from disrupting play .

The FA don't seem to do anything about all the cheating that goes on in football , wasn't standing over the ball at free kicks not allowed .

Another rule that needs looking at is the time wasted by keepers wandering around their penalty area , they used to have to get rid of the ball within a certain time

I think it gets worse the lower down the leagues you go. And players should be ashamed of the way they have got hold of the law that says the ref must stop the game if there is a head injury, a law which was brought in to protect their long-term well-being, and turned into something by which they can 'manage games', clutching their heads the moment they feel the need for a time out.

An alternative answer would be to make the captain responsible, as (s)he is in rugby (I think.) The ref says, 'if you don't tell your players to stop cheating, I'm going to book you.'

They do add time on for all injury stoppages....that's why people call it stoppage time.
I wish they would go back to advancing the ball forward a set number of yards if the opposition does not retreat quickly...as they do in rugby.
The goalkeepers used to have a time limit of 14 seconds to dispatch the ball if being held. Dont know if that is still the case. If the keeper has the ball on the floor then he is open to a challenge...but it's up to the opposition to press him...as Bonne has done.
The referees in all leagues are not strong enough and need to get a grip.

It’s up to us to deal with it though, same as it was in the late 90s when teams came to PR purely to defend. We’ve not dealt with it, in large part, because we attack too slowly.

Yes, referees are often oblivious to it at this level but, again, we have to manage the things we can control.

Good to see De Gea get punished for it in the week with the Smith Rowe goal$

if Ipswich had been 1-0 up with 5 minutes to go there would have been a lot more time wasting

It is so obvious I find it hard to believe referees don't know they are being mugged off.

The other sh!thousery tactic from Rotherham that I didn’t particularly like was the making sure that we couldn’t take a throw/free kick quickly by either kicking the ball away at a throw in or by standing in front of the ball at a free kick thus allowing all of their team to get back in shape.
Should be a booking every time either that or with the free kick thing should be the same as it is in Rugby where the kick is moved 10 yards further forward
