Just turned on TMS and they seem to be suggesting Broad is not playing. Huge call if so with Anderson already being rested and Broad's record against Warner among others.
It's been a little too easy so far, they have a decent attack, it could captain itself I fear
Unfortunately we can’t bat and they’ve got the best bowler in the world in Josh Hazelwood and two 6 foot 5 brutes in Starc and Cummins to slam it into the pitch. On a rock hard surface that you get in Australia, those three combined will give any batting lineup in the world problems.
So for us to not be able to bar anyway.. it’s just a recipe for disaster. My Australia series bet at 2s on mentioned in the other thread surely can’t lose. We just absolutely cannot cope with this. It’s ridiculous.

We are so reliant on 2 batsman in Root and Stokes, the rest are really just bang average. You need tall quick bowlers who bowl just short of a length that keep batsman on the back foot, We have picked just 1 bowler who can do that and he’s never played 5 tests in a row, the rest are right arm medium fast pitch it on a length and hope the duke ball nibbles off the seam. Much better teams than this have been thrashed 4/5-0 I fear this series is going to be brutal.

Which has very much been one of the few exceptions, along with Broads 8/15 of England taking the Aussies to the cleaners. The point of the stat really is any time you have to go back that far, the Ashes didnt even exist as a thing till 1882, you are dealing in an era where there were some very crazy scores compared to the modern era it's almost a pointless comparison is they were virtually playing a different game.
But weve had some rotten hopeless England teams in that modern era who have been thrashed by Australia yet none of them have ever been as bad as that bad.
I never had any optimism England would do anything but lose this series, I just hoped it wouldnt be 5-0, but that was as abject a first day that I can remember even for a team with no prep and a weak batting line up.
