We really have to get this one bang on and compromising isn't something we should be doing. I'd like to think we have 2/3 people we've identified already and we are in the business of headhunting rather than waiting to see what comes to us and choosing from there. We should know our criteria and the person has to tick all of them. For example, if Manager X of a decent calibre wants to come in but wants control over transfers that just isn't going work here. Or if they aren't happy being dictated to by Andy Rolls on who is 'match fit' and who isn't.

It feels to me like we want a coach - the structure seems to very much be geared up for somebody coming in and working with the players they are given, improving them and setting them up astutely on matchdays.

I don't disagree with quite a lot of your post - we do have to get this one right. Compromise isn't always a bad thing (in moderation) - particularly given our poor appointments in recent years.
You even say yourself that 'you feel' we need a certain type of coach - there's nothing wrong with having ideas about the type of coach that you want to recruit, but don't cut your nose off to spite your face by binning off good candidates just because of your preconceived perceptions as to how they manage/coach...

I think the players are technically good enough, they've played really well in small patches. It's just a question of getting the mentality right and confidence levels up and as you say, a couple of new signings, specifically another centre back of Edmundson quality or better, and probably a left back.

Yeah. I don't think we can afford (in more ways than one) to rip it all up and start again. We've got to pick the nucleus out of this squad and selectively improve.

When I heard him talk, and about filtering through applications etc it makes you worry.

Even if you don't have someone lined up, you should have a shortlist of at least a type of manager you want to head hunt (whether it is directly to an unemployed man, or through a club)

Obviously something may come in that interests you, but we should know exactly the profile of manager we want, and be aware of who can work under the conditions we have here and who can demonstrably prove that.

The timing makes no sense in terms of football, only in terms of visiting Americans.

I didn't think we were too bad against Crewe tbh. Thought we dominated, could've scored a couple more. OK they're not Charlton.

Not sure there's no reason to think anthing would change under an interim boss. A lot of our players know Cook very well, they signed for him, they bought into his project and then learned on Saturday he was sacked. There was always a very good chance those players wouldn't react favourably IMO.

If they bought into his project they have been disguising that fact over recent games.
