Fraser to Swansea? 12:20 - Dec 10 with 3137 views | ElderGrizzly | We clearly haven't seen the best of him yet, but if Swansea think they can make use of him in the Championship surely a half way decent manager in this league can find a way to get the MK Dons form out of him?

Fraser to Swansea? on 12:43 - Dec 10 by jayessess | I was a little confused as to what "#8" really means, tbh. In terms of positioning, is there a massive difference in role and positioning between the furthest forward centre midfielder in a 4-3-3 and the #10 in a 4-2-3-1? Surely, in both nominal positions a clever midfielder like Fraser is free to take up whatever position enables them to best influence the game? |
For me in Morsy, Evans, Fraser you probably have as close to the architypal 6, 8 and 10 as you could want. I think at times we've created our own issues this season, with real inconsistancy in selection that has perhaps unsurprisingly played through in performances. We had the challenge of how to include Fraser and Chaplin, with the latter given a run in the #10 while Fraser was shoe horned out wide left, ineffectively. He's then replaced by Edwards. Chaplin scored 3 in 5 and looked to find some form, then he's left out for Celina who had a blinder at Wycombe, which only made the issue worse. Chaplin hasn't really come back from that in terms of performances. It's not just in midfield either, we've had a couple of different keepers, how many left backs is it now? 5 in the league I think (Donacien at Charlton, Burgess briefly, Coulson, Penney, Clements). It's been a mess, then we're told it'll take a while to gel. No sh1t it will like that. Sometimes I really think we over think and over tinker, just play your best players in their best positions, if you have to leave a couple on the bench so be it. It's no wonder we've found no consistency.

Fraser to Swansea? on 12:45 - Dec 10 by ElderGrizzly | I think one of the biggest problems is what is playing alongside him. Morsy simply doesn't have the defensive and positional discipline we all hoped he did so our midfield is way too open |
Off the ball that might be the issue, but isn't our issue with Fraser about when we're in possession? Against Rotherham and Charlton our big problem was our inability to progress the ball past the opposition press. We go backwards because we can't pass through teams. On the very rare occasions that we did break the lines in both games, the quality in the final third was just awful. I can't see that the 3rd centre midfielder's nominal role being slightly closer or slightly further from goal makes much odds to either problem. [Post edited 10 Dec 2021 13:04]

Fraser to Swansea? on 12:53 - Dec 10 by StokieBlue | Guess it's a game of opinions but I disagree. Chaplin has been poor recently and the stats for the season he is below Celina is everything except goals (and Celina is only 1 behind in less matches and only just fit). We don't need players who are in the game for 90 minutes, we need players who can win the match. Giving Celina 20 minutes and then everyone complaining when he's not done anything because he didn't have time is annoying. Seems to be based more on feelings than evidence. IMO some of it comes down to players looking good in effective teams. Both in terms of the clubs they came from and also the fact we were effective for a period (mid-Sept to the start of Nov), but then lost that in the last few weeks.

I do think something is going to have to give in terms of the squad we've ended up with and it might well be a case of thinking through who we can recoup our investment on. We've got a lot of centre midfielders. Chaplin and Celina have played well enough to be keepers. Morsy, Evans, Harper, Carroll are all probably unsellable without taking a massive loss at this point in time. Fraser might be the odd one out.

Fraser to Swansea? on 12:56 - Dec 10 by StokieBlue | It's even clearer than that if you look at other factors: For instance, chances created: Chalin = 9 = 0.53 per match Celina = 17 = 1.21 per match https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/ipswich-town/top-scorers Chaplin seems to get a very easy ride because he scored a few in quick succession and runs around a bit. He's good but doesn't seem to be as effective as Celina. SB |
And as I've posted elsewhere Fraser = 30 chances = 1.67 per game

It's dropping fast though, it was nearly double that at one point.

Doesn't that just reflect the drop in form of the whole team over the last few weeks? Fraser still remains the player most likely to complete a pass, whereas the passing of the rest of the team has been fairly woeful recently.

Fraser to Swansea? on 12:38 - Dec 10 by clive_baker | I think he regards himself as an attacking midfielder, and his role at MK Dons would suggest that too. Even if he did want to be at #8, he hasn't played there much either, until Cook realised Morsy & Evans wasn't working. I would wager he's made <5 starts in a central area. He's not a wide man, clearly doesn't enjoy playing there. |
He got all of his impressive stats last season playing as a #8 in a 3, as said by himself in a town interview. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It’s a trendy way to say he wants to play a specific role in centre midfield I find it sad that a professional footballer these days is so limited in what he can do. I appreciate it’s an unfair comparison but Steven Gerrard could sit in front of the back 4, play behind the striker, effective in a wide position and was probably the best right back of his generation although never really played there. I saw a quote from Kalvin Phillips who said he’d play in goal if he was told to. Fraser is a League One midfielder who should be giving his all in whatever role. [Post edited 10 Dec 2021 18:23]

Fraser to Swansea? on 18:24 - Dec 10 with 590 views | Darth_Koont | I think he’s a player who will look better at a higher level and with better players around him. He’s got great control and some of his passing is well beyond this division. At the same time we also need all-round pace, strength etc. so it’s certainly a trade-off. But in pure ability, ball-playing skills, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was successful in the right Championship team. And beyond that even get a Scotland call up – we’re still missing a deftness and someone who plays with their head up on the edge of the box.

Fraser to Swansea? on 19:58 - Dec 10 with 531 views | Swansea_Blue | I suspect Swansea will look to play him on one of their 2 inside forward (ish) roles. They have 2 CAMs, with the width provided by wingbacks. They’re light in numbers for those positions. I’m not sure if that was how their manager set up at MK Dons. I suppose it’s kind of an 8 crossed with a 10 role, but less sitting than an old fashioned box to box 8, and licence to play wider than a 10 to link with the wingbacks. It’d probably suit him.

Fraser to Swansea? on 12:36 - Dec 10 by ElderGrizzly | Given Celina won't/very unlikely be here next season, it would be short-sighted to trade in a permanent player to allow a loan player to take his place? |
