Why is there only 24 windows on an advent calender? on 10:53 - Dec 21 with 1209 views | Guthrum | When I was young, the calendar windows were traditionally opened just before bed, thus having a 25th one was a bit superfluous, being on the evening of Christmas Day - after the main event, so to speak.

Don't most Europeans celebrate on Christmas eve, so it's probably a standard print run for all countries. It also probably has something to do with avoiding all the letters from Christians not wanting Christ's birthday to marked by chocolate. Advent was supposed to mark the lead up to the birth and everyone is supposed to fast and abstain from any rumpy pumpy.

True, but it started on Advent Sunday 28th November. So really there should be 27 windows. Obviously that was never going to happen.

Yeah, and an extra one next year, it starts on 27th. The advent calendar manufacturers are short changing us, but at the beginning not the end

Neatness too, a 24 day advent calendar fits nicely into either a 3x8 or 4x6 rectangle whereas a 25th day would mess the look up. Works equally with bog standard chocolate ones or beer/gin ones That said I remember when I was younger day 24 used to always have a larger item in so that’s probably not an actual reason!

Why is there only 24 windows on an advent calender? on 11:55 - Dec 21 with 1040 views | Butterbing | I always figured it was because there are actual presents on the 25th. "Sorry kids, ignore the stocking full of presents and all the gifts under the tree as I'm busy opening a cardboard window to look at a picture of a star and eat a tiny tasteless chocolate"

That's another Brexit promise unkept then. Take back control of the 25th window, pah!
