Anybody staying up for The Ashes? on 23:10 - Jan 6 by Chrisd | I’m going to put this out there for discussion, our batting has been woeful there’s no disputing that, however I honestly believe our bowling has only been marginally better. For example, Nathan Lyon has a better batting average than all but three of our players and Starc has a batting average of 75!! The Aussies post yet another 400+ first innings total and we still can’t bowl them out. Not really sure this suggests our bowling has been that good either?! No, I won’t be an utter waste of time. England will be 205 all out. [Post edited 6 Jan 2022 23:11]

Don't disagree actually although the batting has been so bad that it makes the bowling look better. It's been adequate i think is all you can say. In this test judging by the innings we've so far put together i'd say the aussies first innings was about par on this pitch so the bowlers have at least competed. It's more on the bowling side that poor selection hasn't helped either.

Anybody staying up for The Ashes? on 07:35 - Jan 7 by The_Romford_Blue | Well batted JB. |
Indeed, a bit of Yorkshire grit. Funny test. Broad, Khawaja and Bairstow all coming in from the cold. So far. More rain tomorrow apparently. Any money on the draw should be OK.

Anybody staying up for The Ashes? on 03:22 - Jan 7 by Ryorry | Sorry to hear that Badger, hope he's alright. At least he can take a bit of comfort from the fact that he's not an England cricketer playing in this Ashes tour. |
A bit of a do with his heart, silly b*gger's just had a week in and he's probably gone home about 24 hours too soon. Long story short, I was up till nearly 3 with him last night but he's a lot better this morning. When I nipped round just now, the old b'stard was tucking into a bacon sandwich, I am am YET to have my booking breakfast!

Anybody staying up for The Ashes? on 04:03 - Jan 7 by Samuelowen88 | Pretty dismal so far. Bizarre non dismissal for Stokes there as well. But should he even be playing? Sounds like he could be doing himself harm playing. |
I understand that following the Djokovic news, the England rocket team have appealed the decision by Australian immigration services to allow them to remain in the country.

I dont think the bowling has been that bad but theres an issue that we seem to bowl to contain rather than attack for wickets Gower was getting very irate with the field placing again on the first day, and he has a point you arent going to take wickets if you shove 4 men in the deep in a test match, this isnt an ODI game, theyll just keep taking the easy singles you are leaving them rotate the strike and it builds no pressure at all and by the end of a days play theyll have a very healthy score just doing that. Poor old Jack Leach being the prime example, Buttler/Root dropped the Khawaja catch, on 28, not because Buttler isnt our best keeper, and he isnt, but because they were already in the mindset that Jack just bowls 6 balls & not much happens, field is spread, maybe the odd boundary gets through, but a lot of singles, so when the chance does come they werent expecting it, so they fluffed it. The Aussies with Nathan Lyon, every ball he bowls the whole team reacts very vocally as if the batsmen is very lucky to have survived with wickets intact, every ball they set to catch, and when the chance comes its invariably caught. When any of our bowlers bowl, they are the only ones reacting, they get the ball, walk back to their mark and start again in near silence. It's a totally different atmosphere they create, and it impacts our ability to put the Australians under any pressure at all. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

3 dropped chances for the Aussies today, ones they'd probably be disappointed with.
