Thought we had blown our chance when Lorimer equalised in virtually the last minute of the first replay at Elland Road. Was convinced we would lose it in extra time. Missed the 0-0 game at Filbert Street but was at the 3-2 match. Having knocked out both Liverpool and Leeds that season really thought that was our year but then you know who intervened.

It’s strange watching that back now, coz from my memory of the game, Woods was further wide than that. Just shows you we all see things differently in the “ heat of the moment”.

The game at PR was monumental. It took me half and hour to get up the steps into the back of the North Stand, it was that full. When I did all you could see was a “ sea of faces” no arms , body’s etc… Leeds fans had 2/3 (it seemed) of the stand from stretching across to where section ( is now from behind the goal. They were separated from Town fans by “ the thin blue line” of Bobbies, lol…not that there was any room for anyone to swing a punch. Your arms were either up in the air clapping or pinned down by your sides. Absolutely awesome attendance and nerve racking at the time.

I was in the Cobbold terrace for the game at Portman Road. Even there you couldn’t move your arms. I remember when David Johnson’s effort hit the bar all the Town fans in the North Stand surged forward.

Yip, we did…bumper to bumper from Ipswich all the way to Leicester…

Don’t know if this link will be any good.

I was lucky enough to see the Liverpool game, Aston Villa comeback 3-2, Leeds at home and the two Filbert Street games and the Villa Park game.

The drive to Leicester for the 2nd replay was a carnival of buses, cars, vans, scarves you name it. Great scenes (the crowd was a lot smaller on the Thursday).

Tbf, even though the games in hand make it look good for them, think they play something like 8 games in a month. May be god in terms of tiring them out, injuries etc - not sure how big their squad is.

Their owner has been on twitter moaning about it, wanting an extension to the season.

I didn't think they looked all that when we played them. Hopefully the congestion of fixtures slows them down a bit

The play offs this season are a lot earlier this year as final is on 21/5/22

I saw the same games as you (missed Elland rd), and got to Stamford Bridge for the semi replay.
It's funny how many people seem to say they were at the 3rd replay, seeing as the crowd was low - unsurprisingly as it was only 48 hours after the 2nd replay. As a 13 year old at school in Beccles, parents had forbidden me from going to the 3rd replay. But me and a mate found out that a supporters coach was stopping in Beccles and we bunked off to get on the coach. I ended up cycling home in a blizzard from Walberswick to Southwold. Got back at 3 am. I was in so much trouble, but have never, ever regretted it. Thank you Mr Woods.

Naaa I’ve been thinking about it and I reckon we actually finish 5th and play Wycombe in the playoffs. Or we finish 6th and play sunderland but I haven’t quite decided yet.

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

Yes, I missed the Elland Road game too. For the second Filbert Street game we were behind the goal in that funny little stand. Luckily, Woods scored the winning goal right in front of us. What a moment. I’ve still got the programmes for the three games, the Villa and the Liverpool games. Some things you don’t throw away.

I never got to the Stamford Bridge Replay. Despite losing, I wish I’d gone. I thought we’d beat West Ham despite the fixtures. Id been to the Upton Park league game earlier in the season and despite us losing and them being decent, we were a lot better than them. Oh well.

Edit: if memory serves me right, the crowd for the first Leicester game was over 30,000 and the Thursday game, about 20,000. The Tuesday game we were in the little stand at the side. It was split 50/50 with Leeds and rammed.

Yes I think that’s a bout right re attendances…. But I think the turnaround between those two Filbert St games was something like 3 days . It was ridiculous. You literally drove home after the game , and joined a queue at PR to get another ticket…

I think those days are coming again ..albeit through an online version.

My memory says it was two days - the Tuesday and the Thursday. Just checked it on 11v11 and it was 25th and 27th March 1975. Tuesday crowd 35k, Thursday crowd 19.5k

Something else I’ve just remembered, was a bloke was taken ill in the middle of the Town fans in the North Stand. He was lifted up above the crowd, and “ past overhead” by a relay of arms, to the waiting St John’s Ambulance guys stood on the pitch looking up at the stand.

Does anyone else remember the really little St John’s bloke? His hat and uniform seemed 4 sizes too big for him, he was that small. ( short). He wore glasses….they fitted !

I do! I know it’s cruel but I always wanted to see somebody (opposition) carried off because the stretcher was always well down at one end and ready for the comedy drop. Rarely happened in those days. I used to marvel that he could carry anything more than his satchel.

I was standing on the lower tier of the Cobbold stand and being a teenager saw none of the game. It was packed (obviously)

Before the first Leicester game, there was a bloke on the pitch with a Jack Russell sized dog jumping through hoops and stuff. Sensibly he kept a good distance from the side with the number of bottles, cans and stuff being chucked on. A lot of people there were absolutely hammered.

Ha ha, yes I remember that … poor bloke was such an odd sight! Not sure if you would have suffered the shower of Izel loo roll, which always came flying from the back of the stand into the pitch
(Those Argies probably nicked their ticker tape from us lol !!).,,, I expect you had the posh soft loo roll in the Cobbold stand though didn’t you !

That tended to get chucked in from the ends. As for Izal bog roll, the only thing it was good for was chucking on the pitch. The irony of that was that when you had your place on the terrace (usually about 2pm) you didn’t move until yo7 got out at 5pm. Using the stinking sh1*house wasn’t an option!

I tended to go in the lower Cobbold at that time because as a teenager growing up there was a better chance of seeing the game, other than sitting (I always preferred to stand) - particularly in the early years with a footstool! By the age of 17 we were standing mostly in Churchmans.

Edit: the little first aid bloke used to get mocked mercilessly; ironic cheers, the lot. Talk about cruel.

We beat Luton at Highbury in a 3rd round second replay in 1962.

Something else happened with ITFC in 1962 but struggling to remember what.
