'Kieran Lee has a good record of scoring against Ipswich'. A bit later lo and behold he scores against Ipswich. Why does he feel the need to tempt fate all the time?

Best commentator by a long way in this league. Having heard many of the others he is the most knowledgeable. Sounds professional where as most of others in this league don't.

if selective hearing is him scream when the opposition score, well, so be it
People get too worked up about this and I've no real idea why. You can be a commentator on something and sound excited when something exciting happens.
I expect Brenner is a professional who attempts to approach his work with a little bit of professionalism. That isn't bias against Town; it's simply an attempt to provide as impartial a 'view' as he can give listeners.
As others, including myself, in this thread have pointed out, other commentary teams are so biased it's like listening to Rotherham Pravda.
And yeah, anyone who gets their knickers in a twist over local radio commentary of League One football probably needs to check their priorities in life.

He did call us the great unwashed which was rather confrontational.
Unless he was just referring to some of the cretins who call on the phone-in, in which case his comment would be entirely justified.
I don't wear any knickers. At least not on matchdays.

last part - na not really. i dont mind him for 99.9999% of a game, but when the other team score he gets on my tits.
not entirely sure i need to check my life over in detail, i dont like posters on here, that also doesnt warrant a life checking exercise. just is what it is

Just think he gets unfair stick for his job, tbh. Not that it really makes much of a difference either way but I think we're lucky to have him having heard the clowns other fans get. Definitely don't think he takes any particular joy in us conceding or has an agenda, for sure.

He doesn’t. There’s a clip on YouTube when Pablo scored on the 95th min vs Coventry (first win of the season) and he goes absolutely mad with joy.
If even say that he’s better than some of the National commentators. No idea why some think he’s happy when other teams score against us. Easy target and all that.

Personally I’d prefer the way he is now to him laying it on extra thick for every goal we conceded “oh no a goal”. I don’t need my hand holding through the game, we all know what’s good and what’s not.
If I had any critique of his commentary sometimes I feel he could ‘place’ the action a bit more specifically at times, sometimes when listening I lose a grip on where the action is taking place on the field. Minor however, great commentator.

Indeed. I actually transcribed a bit of a game on these pages a couple of years ago (when people were once again moaning that he supports the opposition) to prove he really doesn't. And that was just taking a game randomly, but your example is a good one too.
There was a bit on Saturday where Mathie praised an oppo player for an amazing pass and I wondered if some were going to get upset with it and claim even HE supports the opposition.
The fact that quite a few say it, whilst others like myself can't hear it at all, suggests it's some sort of psychological disorder - like you're upset and angry (because we've conceded) so your brain takes over from what your ears are actually hearing and fools the senses, making things sound worse. Really odd, but it's certainly not Brenner's fault.
And I'd certainly rather him tell it as it is than make a conscious effort to have a downer on the opposition and/or sugarcoat what Town are doing.

I don't think he supports the opposition and he obviously wants us to win but he commentates too much like a neutral on a national radio station for me. His tone when the opposition score or nearly score is the same as when when we score. Grates on me. Obviously personal preference but I much preferred the Beattie/Baxter combo back in the day.

the point is that he is a very knowledgeable and concise commentator…like others have said he needn’t get so excited when the oppo scored or comes close to scoring..fair enough if he was working for a ‘neutral’ broadcaster but as has been suggested, he ought to think about who his target audience is..

If you noted what he actually says, he doesn't commentate like a neutral at all. But fair enough if it's not your personal preference. When you hear the OTT bias of some other local commentators I much prefer Brenner's.

His target audience isn't mostly needy teens though! Personally I think his excitement levels just rise depending on the situation, and it comes naturally. I don't see any need to check himself and tone it down for anyone.

Out of curiosity I sometimes put the oppositions radio commentator on iFollow. Sometimes they are good but often they are just average with little knowledge of the opposition (Ipswich).
