I've seen a few murmurings (on Twitter, admittedly) that Labour might look to force a confidence vote and try to capitalise on the current Tory discontent. The 'Starmer as next PM' scenario relies on a lot of long-shots and uncertainties, but I suppose that's what could be driving that particular market.

I mean. it's not impossible. Johnson could miscalculate and engineer a snap election having become convinced that the country loves him really and is more angry at these traitrous Tory MPs who are turning on him after delivering Brexit, vaccines, etc. But I'm not sure he's quite that stupid.

That would require an awful lot of Conservative MPs voting not to remain in power. Unlikely.

Perhaps Theresa May can do a Harold Wilson (without the inconvenience of losing a General Election*)? * Unless you count 2017, which she didn't entirely win, but managed to stay as PM.

That’s why he’s as low as he is (now 10/1 anyway) because there’s a few chances of things happening. If he was a lot higher more people would back and they’d be paying out big money if it did happen.

I think i read a story the other day about the Addison Lee owner, who's a big Tory donor, saying that what he wants is for Boris to resign, then run himself in the leadership election with the winner then calling a GE. He puts loads in so maybe just maybe they'll listen to him? Edit: link: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/17/tory-donor-urges-boris-johnson- [Post edited 19 Jan 2022 11:17]
