The three most overrated albums that you own. 15:10 - Feb 18 with 4735 views | MattinLondon | Was just flicking through some old CDs and rediscovered some which I’ve forgotten about. This hit me thinking - in your opinion which albums, in your opinion, are the most overrated. You could still really like them but you don’t think of them as ‘classics’. Anyway, my three most overrated albums are as follows.

The three most overrated albums that you own. on 19:23 - Feb 18 by Dubtractor | Guns n Roses - Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 About an albums worth of good stuff, just about, and the rest is either toss or filler. November Rain is 'the most dangerous band in the world' doing something that Meatloaf rejected for Bat Out of Hell 2. Double albums are rarely a good idea, and this is a prime example of that. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Another example of a poor double album that could have been a great single album. Some of it is great (1979 the standout) but fark me there is some ego fuelled filler. Plus, 'They Only Come Out At Night' is one of the worst songs I've ever heard by a band I like. This album galls as it follows Siamese Dream, which is one of my top 5 favourite albums ever. Primal Scream - Give Out But Don't Give Up On paper I should love it, I love the Primals, I love the stone-esque soul that it is channelling, but its a confused mess of an album. It doesn't sit right at all in the discography either, between the excellent Screamadelica and Vanishing Point albums that both hit the druggie vibes quite hard. |
For me....... The Gift - The Jam - Complete pile of pretentious sh1te Back in Black - AC/DC - I just couldn't accept Brian Johnson U2 - Rattle and Hum - don't know why I bought it as I don't even like them.

Back in Black is brilliant...but i accept your point regarding Johnson after the wonderful Bon Scott. It did take a while for many fans to get used to a slightly different sound. For me......Dire Straits Money For Nothing, Nivarna Nevermind. Led Zeppelin IV
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

The Gift pretentious? It contains 3 of The Jam's best tracks in Carnation, Ghosts and Town Called Malice. Not a great album but it's decent. Precious is a bloody good track too. [Post edited 18 Feb 2022 20:14]

I've grown to like Back in Black to be fair - but it took a while, I don't suppose it helped that I didn't like Geordie. If Noddy Holder had accepted the gig I would have loved it. Agree with Money for Nothing and I would add Brothers in Arms. Also agree with Zep 4 I can't comment on Nirvana as I've never been interested in them anyway.

London Calling overrated? Go and stand in the corner and think about what you've said.

Yo Nogs At the risk of upsetting you twice in one day, I think everything The Clash ever did was overrated. I think the only track I really liked was Deny.

I think we would get on like a house on fire. Half of our lot (my droogs) are corduroy Communist cosmonauts but we all get on and love each other because it's real life - and to be fair we all have functioning brains. I'd love to have a £17 pint with you in Sweden Nogs.

The three most overrated albums that you own. on 19:09 - Feb 18 by WeWereZombies | 'The Bends' overrated? Are you mad? Agree about Alanis Morrissette though, not about 'Achtung Baby' because it was the last good album they made and was an acceptable move away from previous ones as well. |
Anyone who thinks The Bends is overrated needs shooting - in the fecking b0llocks.

Why Sweden? This might surprise you but a half litre can be had, in a pub, for about a fiver where I live.

Sweden, Norway, Finland, I get confused. Same same. Did you know I was in all those three countries in one day once?

I’m with you on Rattle And Hum - I only bought it because an ex-girlfriend was mad on them. In fact when I occasionally play the Joshua Tree I’m only playing it for sentimental reasons to do with her - proves the point that music is heavily loaded with emotion.

Perhaps I've listened to it too much but for me it lacks the precision and beauty of OK Computer and later albums. Songs like "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Bones" and "Sulk" just sound like they were trying too hard.

It's a good thing we all like different things isn't it. Possibly in the same way I love DSOTM but I've heard it too much. Give me Animals any day of the week.

The three most overrated albums that you own. on 15:19 - Feb 18 by MattinLondon | Sorry, downvoted but mistake. ‘Definitely Maybe’ is a fantastic album. |
Definitely Maybe was amazing, the album that really got me into music. Got my first guitar in 94, first song I learnt to play was Live Forever. Even back then though I didn't like Morning Glory, it was all safe and middle of the road. Nothing out there like Up In The Sky or Columbia, no edge like Bring It On Down. It was the start of Dadrock. When I went to university in 1997 every coat with a guitar I met was earnestly playing Wonderwall.
