Virgin Media broadband - opinions please! 11:41 - Mar 2 with 2237 viewsZx1988

Any good?

I'm currently trying to sort out broadband for my new place, and I'm getting offered their 108Mb package for £24 a month, which seems a pretty good deal.

I've heard that the bundled router/hub isn't much cop at all, with the WiFi being pretty naff. A friend has it and has often struggled with video calling in particular. On the other hand, I've also read that if you use the hub as a modem and then wire it into a different router, these problems often seem to disappear.

Does anyone else have any experience of this? Failing Virgin, are there any fibre deals (VM are the only FTTP provider in the new area) that would be a good alternative?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Unrivalled for speed and the customer service is ok - although I did have one crazy issue that I cannot explain on here, largely because it's unexplainable.

What customer service?! They have an online forum where you can chat with others about your issue... but an email address or phone number where you can talk to an employee is very hard to come by.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I upgraded to VM from sky last October as sky router was awful as well as the service being pretty awful.

We got a deal for £69 a month for M350 fibre, Maxit TV pack (gives my sky movies, sports & bt sport)

The router is pretty good and the Wi-Fi signal is no worse than any other routers, we always get a good d/l speed and for example for playing Xbox live there are no server lags that had been experienced with both sky & but standard FTTC broadband.

That’s what I am getting right now in the room furthest from the router

I've been with them for twenty years and can't complain other than all these little £1.50 price increases which has seen my bill go to £118 a month!

TV XL package(that's not sky movies etc..)
TiVo monthly fee(the box)
Sky sports collection including BT
M200 Fibre broadband
Telephone line rental - that's next to nothing now so decided to keep it

I know I need to leave and come back as a new customer....I'd get that lot for half that I'm sure..

If you want to buy from them or add additional features then their customer service is amazing.
If you want to remove or cancel a service then they are the customer service from hell. The first person can never deal with it. They have to transfer you and that's most commonly to a silent line that cuts off after 5 mins.

You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

My experience is dated, but it’s the best broadband I’ve ever had. When you move away from a cable-served area and have to rely on the BT exchanges, you realise how sh*t they are in comparison. I’m limited to 50MB max, frequently get half of that, have regular dropouts and more engineer visits than days of the week. In 7 years of Virgin before that we had 1 problem, sorted on the phone within an hour.

Experiences will vary though depending on area.
