Why is the atmosphere at PR so poor... 13:20 - Mar 9 with 3779 views | Whataday78 | Same rubbish songs, 1 song for 2 players.. it's all abit crap really. Our away support is great but don't see that at the home games

Why is the atmosphere at PR so poor... on 20:31 - Mar 9 by blueislander | It was be interesting to know the demographics of attendees at Portman Road , I would say tha t anyone over 45 is unlikely to sing or chant unless there is real excitement on the pitch, such as, obviously a goal, or a near miss . |
I'm 49 and spent yesterday apologising to my clients for my rather hoarse voice. In general those around my age in Section 2 tend to join in with a few of the chants - Allez, Blue N White Army, etc but not the newer ones - can't really hear the new George Edmundson one where we are and it's good but not catchy. Best song the other night was "When the Town go marching in" - seemed to be most of the ground singing it until it got too fast and everyone got out of step

Why is the atmosphere at PR so poor... on 12:11 - Mar 10 by Whataday78 | I get your point but you can't just assume that people aren't contributing to the atmosphere, I've had people question if I'm a Norwich fan or if I even go to the games.. I don't get what the hostility is about, I've pointed something out that I would like us as a fanbase to work on. Away support is awesome and I'm not taking anything away from that either. |
To be perfectly honest I've always thought people go to games for different reasons. Some just like to watch a football match, cheer a goal, clap a bit but don't really want to stand for 90 minutes singing songs about a celebrity chef. Other do. I'm probably more in the latter camp but you have to respect everyone is different. I think we've got a decent atmosphere, it's not all over the ground but then I think that's true of all clubs. Away numbers are great and tend to be vocal. Home numbers have been great, 25k on a Tuesday night in L1 when people are feeling the pinch. I don't think the game lent itself to raucous noise and neither did the lack of away fans. I imagine Saturday will be very different, with a sold out Pompey section. Good on you if you try and get songs going though, keep it up.

hmm worth being called a dick? I appreciate everyone has an opinion on the state of play with our atmosphere but is there any need to be rude?

Again, self awareness not one of your strengths is it. If being called a dick on the internet concerns you, I would politely suggest a football discussion forum is not for you. My seat in NSL Area 5. S6/Blue Action do a great job, it's a shame their proposed move to the middle of the stand hasn't happened yet. Some of the newer songs do need some work, but then some of the others like Allez Allez have been a real success. But when it is just one corner of the stand with new material, it's difficult to make it travel, I think many of their songs don't populate beyond section 5 as not enough people can pick up the words.

I mean I'm not hurt by it haha but it's just counter productive isn't it? I don't disagree, BA have done a decent job in some respects and perhaps me sitting in S4 is why I can't hear them. As someone touched on earlier maybe it was particularly bad because it was a tuesday night and saturday will be a different story. I remember when Tuesday nights were the best nights for an atmosphere.. Jonny WIlliams scoring the worldie against Derby that time being the pick of the bunch, that was a great night. I would love it personally if we could get that kind of atmosphere back at PR, seen as though the results we going our way.
Why is the atmosphere at PR so poor... on 13:09 - Mar 10 with 545 views | TheBoyBlue | Was trying to get things going in Upper tier of Pioneer Stand with my boy and often others do join in, but no one seemed in the mood on Tuesday. Others have said that people are less into it after a day at work and work again in the morning. Perhaps we also need something to wind us up and there was nothing really to get anyone worked up. The ref was pretty decent and the game was won by half-time and with little danger of us losing it from that point and the match itself tailed off, especially with the injuries. Plus Lincoln were inoffensive, in fact quite likeable in the way they actually came to play football, unlike others this season that have helped get the crowd united against them. In some ways, it was all pleasingly routine, as it should have been for a club like ours from the moment we dropped into this division, but it did seem to subdue the atmosphere. He's 6 foot 3, built like a fridge He's stronger than the Orwell Bridge George Edmundson, Ipswich centre half na-na na-na na-na na-na na-naaaaaa etc (to the tune of 'the animals go in two-by-two/Noah's Ark. Liverpool did it for Fernando Torres way back). Got a solid video of it, going to see if we can get a better one Saturday and then get it out there...

The majority of the North Stand were again really poor on 16:10 - Mar 10 with 430 views | Kieran_Knows |
The majority of the North Stand were again really poor on 13:38 - Mar 9 by unstableblue | I think Block A of the Cobbold were making more noise than 2 thirds of the lower North last night. Its terrible. We were playing some really nice and exciting stuff in that first half and the middle and left sections of the North were silent, nothing. The Blue Action guys are trying but its now a small number. Whats up? best football we've had in a decade and no one is singing. Perhaps its due to the fact that Blue Action sing newer songs that the rest of the North don't respond to. But come on if you can't sing en masse "Burns, Burns will tear you apart again", or "Connor Chaplin Baby"... some response to 'McKennas at the Wheel.." and "Ooh Sonny Aluko"... but even "Bobby conquered Europe.." was getting a muted response last night. Come on people... MUST DO BETTER.. you can't excuse it with the players aren't giving anything back... as we've been starting faster/better recently |
I have to say, there's something about the 'McKenna's at the wheel song' that just doesn't sit right with me. United sang it about Ole and it basically went t*ts up from the moment they sang it. Would prefer it if he had a proper chant of his own.
