Many of you fell for the 'Corbyn being a Putin fan' lie 12:36 - Mar 11 with 11672 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

Amongst many other lies of course.
But he wasn't.
And he was right all along to warn against him and his oligarchs.

https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/russia-ukraine-war-jeremy-corbyn-right-put

"He's gone now Dollers, let it go."
Just getting that in before others do. Rather misses the point though.
A fantastic job was done on Corbyn.
All we can hope is a few people learn from it and keep an open mind on the establishment's narrative in future.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

The article clearly points out which elements of the far left, you need to read it.

These are all people I don’t follow or care about. None of them represent a collective think tank.

Abbot’s comments were fairly dumb but largely it’s been the “far left” screaming about corruption of far right wing candidates being kompromat for years. The right wing have largely benefitted from media funding through this network.

the morning star/stop the war amongst others, monbiot's article explains where they've fallen short.

obviously not the entire far left, eg tatchell & the syrian socialists he quotes

The Morning Star is a tankie magazine.

Far left ≠ Communism stans. Even if they think they are.

What’s better:

Glassers v DK?
OR
Glassers v Dolly?

It’s the Pablo v Kuqi of our time

I don’t have glassers down as either a Pablo or a Shefki.
He’s more like the Lee Chapman that turned up here in the 90’s.
Quite happy to talk himself up, but liable to disappear in a strop when challenged.

I think that is a misreading and misrepresentation still but hey ho.

Let’s just hope that the Russian anti-war movement isn’t being denounced and dismissed as NATO/Western Imperialist apologists.

the russian anti-war movement is in prison or in hiding. another reason for pointing our ire at the most-deserving target!

Hmmmm. Who to listen to?

Peter Tatchell, long time human and LGBT rights campaigner and Oz Katerji, brave freelance journalist currently reporting from Kyiv? Or Darth Koont, TWTD poster and frustrated advertising exec who has defended everyone from Corbyn to Chris WIlliamson long after normal decent people have cut them loose?

Bit of a toughie!

The original article wasn't written by Darth was it? He's right, you just cherrypick what you want. And all Tatchell has said there is he doesn't recall Corbyn being there. Amazing evidence that!

Of course, but I haven’t seen anyone not be critical of Putin’s invasion and clearly he’s the aggressor here.

But in the comments from Russian anti-war protesters I’ve seen, they also point out that NATO expansionism (no inverted commas needed) is a factor even if it is certainly not justification for the invasion. So Stop The War is on the same page.

I also don’t see people pushing the “Ukraine should be in NATO” line as bullishly as they were before the war started. So the penny has dropped there, I think.

Turning this into black and white, good vs. evil where criticism from an anti-war perspective can only be aimed at Putin seems to be missing the point and truth of it all. And it’s partly that inability to look at ourselves and our own posturing and interventions that has helped put the Ukrainian people in Putin’s sights. After all, NATO isn’t a purely defensive organisation anymore, it’s become a foreign policy/sphere of influence tool and we shouldn’t pretend otherwise.

I agree that NATO should have stayed as a defensive pact. You wont find me defending their intervention in Afghanistan.

However, it’s a someone naive view I feel to factor NATO into the reasons for the invasion. Do you really think Putin wouldn’t have made this move (or Georgia/Syria) if NATO was disbanded/no longer a thing?

He’d be half way to GdaÅ„sk by now.

Who knows with Putin?

NATO doesn’t justify his actions at all but is part of the explanation. If NATO didn’t exist then there would still be no justification for what Putin decided to do but a different explanation.

I guess we’ll see now that Putin has largely got what he said he wanted which was Crimea, the eastern separatist states and Ukraine distanced from NATO for the foreseeable. I’m not sure he wants an occupation and to try and bring Ukraine as a whole back into his Russian World – and I don’t think he’s looking to expand into Poland etc. I suppose that would depend on how much he considers Poland and the rest of NATO as a destabilising threat and not a purely defensive pact.

you're right on that bit:- "If NATO didn’t exist then there would still be no justification for what Putin decided to do but a different explanation."

it's a russia first thing for him, nato is way down on his interests.

personally, i don't mind nato being a "foreign policy/sphere of influence tool", far better than using war as your sole foreign policy/sphere of influence tool.

Oh Dollers.

'I cannot recall Jeremy Corbyn attending any rallies against Assad's & Putin's war crimes in Syria. Jeremy ignored appeals to support humanitarian aid drops to besieged civilians in Aleppo. His Stop the War colleagues smeared Syrian democrats & leftists opposed to Assad. Shameful'!

If you take from that statement that "all Tatchell has said there is he doesn't recall Corbyn being there", then you are either being incredibly thick or incredibly disingenuous.

Pesonaly, I don't think you are thick. But it's not a cult.
