Got Corona!! 15:55 - Mar 20 with 6693 viewsunstableblue

Brutal sore throat and leg pains this morning and failed a lateral flow.

Had done two tests yesterday evening because I was sensing something was up. They were both negative.

Now had to do the WhatsApp of shame to some people I saw Friday, and yesterday afternoon.

Are you contagious if you are negative on a lateral flow? I’d hope not.

Think there is loads of Corona around at the moment and everyone has given up on masks and any other measures

Poll: How do you rate the new home kit out of 5?

You cannot be serious. You’d rather 2 years of restrictions (even as severe as the first lockdown) than 3 days of a sore throat. What an incredible statement.

Ps. You have no idea how many people you knew caught it unless everybody you know was doing PCR tests every day.

For starters, you obviously haven't had it, it's horrendous. Have you ever been awake and not eaten for 3 days because you were in too much pain to do either?

Secondly, he was surmising what that would be like for properly vulnerable people (as he isn't one), which obviously could be worse still.

On the basis of both of the above, then yes, I'd rather have 2 years of restrictions.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Well your point about the attacks coming my way are correct, I don't exactly buy dangerously misguided as there has been a lot of reporting suggesting this.

I mean this is NPR for goodness sake, hardly Fox News.

"A 2004 FAIR study concluded that "NPR’s guestlist shows the radio service relies on the same elite and influential sources that dominate mainstream commercial news, and falls short of reflecting the diversity of the American public."

"The study found those occupying board seats of NPR and its member stations disproportionately have corporate affiliations such as investment funds, banking, consulting firms and corporate law firms."

He said he’d rather have two years or restrictions than a few days of how he felt. That is an incredible statement full stop.

I’ve had it at least twice. First time pre vaccines and lost taste and smell for around 6 weeks and had what I’d describe as a very heavy cold for 2 weeks or so. Second time much more recently and the cold was probably marginally worse and I’ve struggled to shake it off but nothing that would want me to go back to lockdowns.

Again I’m not saying people shouldn’t be careful etc before you jump to conclusions.

Exactly this - the right position, as is usually the case, is somewhere in the middle of the extremes.

I've also had it, it was bloody horrible, but I'd gladly have it once a year if it meant no more lockdowns. We just need people to be sensible, which coincidentally was all Unstable Blue was proposing in his OP, and think about other people a bit rather than just themselves.

I didn't know what NPR was and you were heralding it, so googled it and that's what came up. I don't know what to tell you. Wikipedia's pretty accurate I find.

Besides, even the article you linked from them doesn't say cloth masks are pointless: "A cloth mask can be a "marginally OK to maybe a decent filter," Marr says."

As I said elsewhere in the thread, better than nothing.

And you're the 3rd person on here to have a dig at me for getting Covid. Wow, we do have some really nasty people on this site.

So you haven't had the latest sore throat thing I described then? You haven't a clue what you're talking about.

You've also ignored the context to his statement, which I helpfully pointed out for you. But you've just ignored that again, just looked at the basic statement and said "full stop."

If I'd had what you've described I'd choose that over lockdowns for sure. We're talking about two entirely different things though. Read my description again and tell me you'd rather have that, if you can imagine it.

The context of his statement undeniably doesn’t read as you suggest.

I’d rather me have it in the way you describe than 2 years of lockdowns. Again I’m talking about me (not the protection of others) until you jump to lots of conclusions, which you’re showing time and time again is what you tend to do.

Little point in carrying this on. Stay well.

Why do t0ssers like you keep saying that it is 3 days of a sore throat?

I am still quite unwell after 6 days and my mate, who is also 65, is now 8 days into severe headaches, a constricted chest and a nasty sore throat. Luckily for him, his wife is a GP.

Have you had the thing I and Asa were describing, or the type Pride Of The East was? They are very different things.

I'm at day 6 now and just starting to improve. On the phone to my mum earlier, I described how I felt today (so the 'on the mend' version rather than the worse one of the last few days) as like you've swallowed the lid off a bottle of water and it's stuck in your throat. That's the good version.

Can you imagine 3 days sat on your bed in so much pain you're unable to eat or sleep (you're really hungry and tired though, it's not like you've lost the need for those things). Sometimes you nod off through sheer exhaustion for a second, then the pain snaps you back upright again. You're scared to ever swallow, and then there's the coughing where you feel like your throat is going to break off and projectile out of your mouth. Not just my throat, my whole neck aches.

It's the worst 'sore throat' I've had in my life. Feck that, I don't what that EVER again.

That’s unnecessarily aggressive. My point was simply one of absolute surprise at somebody hypothesising a further 2 year lockdown, nothing more, nothing less.

Hope you and your mate get well soon.

I have no idea how mine compared to yours, or anyone else, and speculating based on a couple of sentences on here is pointless. I did feel bloody terrible for 10 days though - including a sinus infection that was like nothing I'd ever had before.

To be clear, I don't *want* covid in any form ever again, but I want lockdowns and restrictions even less.

He's had it twice, but a while ago (one before the first restrictions if I recall correctly) and in the milder forms. So not what we've experienced.

I didn't know the sore throat was even a thing - in fact the NHS website barely mentions it. I can only assume it's a factor of the latest strain and they (plus the media) aren't up-to-date yet.

Lucan was on another thread stating that wearing cloth masks is next to pointless and anyone wearing one and complaining about those who aren’t, is a ‘bit of a tit’

Is it safe to assume both lucan & joey jnr whatnot are spouting dangerously misguided nonsense?

Just seems odd that one rightly gets pelters whereas the other is left predictably unchallenged.

I couldn't possibly comment, except to say that cultivating a 'bit of a lad' relating 'amusing stories' image has certainly been a successful strategy enabling the current occupant of no.10 to get away with stuff for years ...

It’s certainly been an eye opener into Covid, having only relied upon other people’s experiences.

Over the last fortnight, all four of us had it and all had different symptoms. I was gasping for air and having coughing fits as well as heavy cold symptoms, the wife was aching all over and had a spell where we nearly had an ambulance out as she couldn’t breathe, the 13 year old - who has been able to have jabs - was dizzy and felt sick and the 8 year old had a fever and was burning up for days, without any other symptom.

It’s almost impossible to know how society proceeds. Do you lock everyone down forever and destroy the economy, society and mental health? Of course not. Do you pretend that it’s gone away and accept this is life now and carry on as before - which is what we seem to have done - I can’t agree to that either.

I do an hours cardio every day, play football three times a week, consider myself to be in decent health with no existing health problems and Friday to Sunday was as ill as I have ever been. Really scary at times and, as I alluded to before, I can’t imagine how those symptoms in someone elderly or with underlying health issues would have played out. In the interest of balance I’ve had a mate, younger than me, die from Covid related issues - so that may have changed my perspective dramatically.

I’ve now only got what I’d say are mild cold like symptoms. Feint line on the LFT and everyone else in the house has recovered. Hopefully I’m a day or two away from testing negative.

In an ideal world we’d continue to take sensible precautions, protect the most vulnerable, isolate in the times that we have symptoms and all do our bit to prevent the spread. How I was feeling at the height of being ill - I’d happily stand by my statement that I’d rather be locked down again!

There’s no one size fits all solution and everyone has their own risks, concerns, work scenario, vulnerable loved ones and so on. I just don’t think we are in a place where we can be at one extreme or the other and to me, the Government just allowing everyone to do everything we did in 2019, when this virus can do what it does, is unbelievable.

Exactly that.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people wanting to get on with their lives and do all the things they used to do, whilst also recognising that Covid hasn’t gone away and we all have a responsibility in ensuring we do as much as we reasonably can not to help spread something that can be fatal to some people and very debilitating to others.
