What are people up to?

After the last couple of years of not doing much or staying local(ish), we’re taking the plunge and planning a week in the Picos de Europa in northern Spain and then a week with the Mrs’ sister and family at a villa in the French Pyrenees. I’m not sure how that’s all going to work out with Covid, but we’re driving down to avoid public transport and people. Can’t wait tbh, it’s been too long.

Otherwise it’s North Wales for Easter and half term as we’ve still got to clear out my dad’s place. Not a pleasant job but got to be done, so we’re going to use it as a base while we’ve got it. The one benefit of Covid is it’s reminded us that you don’t have to travel far. We had a cracking holiday in N Wales last summer.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Couple of bits planned but the big one is finally going on belated honeymoon in October to Sri Lanka and then Maldives.

Reading others' views on Sri Lanka makes me even more excited and impatient to go.

Fond memories of Bandos Island in the Maldives where I won the champions league of crab racing and 300 bottles of beer, which I then had split between every table who was out and became a bit of a legend. What Island are you staying on? Friend went on his honeymoon recently and his new wife came back pregnant, be careful haha!

Doing the Big California Roadtrip with my partner. The absolute classic route; LA, coast road to monetery, Yosemite, Palm Springs, San Diego, back to LA through OC. Can't wait, first proper trip since the before times. Expect to come home more tired than when I left though!

Poll: Was it a punch?

I'll make sure to name-drop that I know the crab racing king. We're staying on Velassaru and cheers for the warning - we're planning on hiking the Appalachian trail in Spring 2024 so no kids on the horizon until at least after then.

Usual month away in-between football seasons, so off early June, back early July. A week meandering from St Malo across and down to the Med, then a ferry over to Mallorca. Three-and-a-bit weeks there, mostly in a rural idyll. Back through France to Hook of Holland and home in time for most of pre-season plus the Womens Euros.

Dam right, need a holiday this year.

Booked 10 days in Sorrento in Italy for June, then hoping to get a few days away in October.
Maybe a surprise trip in July as well if Mrs gets the hints about my birthday this year, its a big one!

I loved Sorrento and Capri. Bloody expensive though.

Oh, heading there in June! I will save up.

As much as I'd like to go to the salt mines in Bolivia having a 4 year old is a bit restrictive so its -

Center Parcs
Crete
Camping in the New Forest

(trying to fit as much in before school kicks in and term time is a no go..)

The salt mines or the salt pans (flats)? Bolivia has both.

I went to Madeira in early January and have weekends in Rome (Mother in Laws 60th) and Venice (My 10th wedding anniversary) booked in for May and July

But we have bought a static caravan in Norfolk on a Haven park so will be going there lots, including next week

And you didn’t visit!

Just booked 2 weeks in Tenerife for end of June. Did manage to get over to France a couple of times during the pandemic for fishing trips. But was so much aggro with all the forms and testing.

I think for June all we will need is proof of vaccinations and no faffing about for coming back to UK.

Are you over there? I was really impressed by it as a destination - even got myself a Maritimo shirt!

The only time I went to Malta I was there for a conference with the company I worked for.

I was so bored that I got drunk enough to piss myself. True story.

Oliver Reed had a somewhat similar experience, he really wasn’t entertained, just shadows and dust, was his opinion I believe.
