Has anyone here ever owned a Lurcher on 18:44 - May 7 with 1734 views | thebooks | Have a greyhound — fairly delicate tummies. It’s all diet, I’ve found. Get them on a good quality kibble and it’ll settle down. A raw diet is also good, but expensive. Don’t change things around all the time.

Giving her half a tin of butchers tripe mixed with Harringtons biscuits in the morning and Harringtons dry dog food in the evening. RSPCA said that was a good quality mix.

I can see the problem. Try eating half a tin of tripe and see how you smell the following day.

"The best food for Lurchers is a mixed bag. There are so many different types of dogs that could have been mated with a Greyhound to produce your Lurcher that it means not only your budget, personal preference, and the dog's tastes should be considered but so should the types of breeds used. Still, there are dog foods meant for Lurchers that generally work very well, and one is Supadog Complete Dry Dog Food for Greyhounds & Lurchers. More particular dog owners tend to prefer Skinners Duck and Rice, however, as it is free of filler, corn, and other things that can cause allergic reactions in this particularly sensitive dog's tummy."

Cheers. Was told Skinners is really good for sight hounds. I'll get some tomorrow. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Just make sure you transition her off what she's on now. 75% of her current diet and 25% of the new for a couple of days, then 50/50 for a couple of days, then 25/75 for a couple of days. Else, farts will be the least of your worries, and it'll look like someone spilt the gravy.

You're right of course to point out a lurcher could be practically anything breed wise mixed with a greyhound. Still, having tried a number of things I'd always suggest either Pro-Plan or Eukanuba. Chappie works well for some dogs with sensitive stomachs and a quarter tin per dog is enough to just coat the dried food to make it more palatable. Trial and error though. I also used to drizzle a little cod liver oil in once a day too. Nice shiny coat and helps the dog 'pass' to counter the dried food a bit.

Funny you mentioned chappie Jeera. Years ago my dogs vet swore by that. I didn't know you could still get it.

I had one dog who could eat anything, and I mean could happily have some of my Saturday takeaway and be fine. She grew up on a breakfast of porridge with full fat milk and a raw egg. Some people will tell you that raw egg is bad. I'll tell them she had to be put to sleep at 16 and a half and was never ill in her life. Make of that what one will. Then I got a greyhound and went through loads of stuff before settling on a formula. Even Harringtons and other so-called special mixes unsettled his stomach. Yes, more than one vet said Chappie was the answer, so mornings was just a standard bowl of dried food; Pro-Plan do a range of flavours. Eukanuba when I couldn't get that. Evening meal half a tin of Chappie, between them, mixed into more dried food to make it more interesting. Dried is a bit dull on its own. I also found dried on its own was showing as too dry in their toilet hence a little cod liver oil. Don't want them getting piles! [Post edited 7 May 2022 19:20]

My grandparents had one and use to feed it tinned pilchards. I still have nightmares about the smell of the dog slobber. Never been able to touch tinned pilchards or sardines since, funnily enough

I was with my previous long-term lady friend, sitting on the sofa together one evening watching something on TV when I actually farted for the first time in front of her. I was really embarrassed and apologised profusely. She looked at me and said I'd done it in front of her loads of times, but I knew I hadn't. All the times it was the dog she'd assumed it was me just blaming the dog. It took some bloody convincing before she accepted it. I don't know why she was seeing me if she thought I was in any way capable of the things that dog was able to produce I'm sure.

My wife’s swears by Chappie for the dogs. Available in Tesco, though cheaper in larger trays elsewhere I believe.
Has anyone here ever owned a Lurcher on 21:30 - May 7 with 1376 views | Swansea_Blue | Lovely dogs btw. So gentle - make perfect pets, as long as there are no really noisy kids about. Same with greyhounds. My grandparents always got rescue dogs. After the lurcher they had a greyhound rescued from some Irish travellers. The poor thing had come to the end of its useful life and was covered in scars and a quivering wreck to begin with. It never did trust men, so god knows what it had been through. It took my grandpa a couple of years to earn her trust, but she never accepted me or any other males. Only him and they were inseparable. She was absolutely fine with women, even strangers. Such a placid dog, but then I’ve never seen a dog move like her off the leash - a bloody rocket. The vet reigned her in and said she had to stay of the lead in the end as she’d been over-raced and was going to hurt herself. I think you need special skills to handle a dog like that.

Has anyone here ever owned a Lurcher on 14:30 - May 8 with 1112 views | LRB84UK | Current (absolutely bonkers!) Lurcher owner here!! It took us a while to find what worked for her, we give her wainwrights dry kibble with half a tray of the wainwright's "wet" food. Seems a good combination for her. She also gets quite a bit of human food too. It did take a while for her to settle on what she liked. She can't eat anything from a Chinese or Indian take away as it gives her an upset tum but seems fairly OK on anything else. The farts are pretty pungent but definitely at the worst after a roast dinner! They are notorious counter and bin surfers so watch out for that, if you think things are out of reach, push them back by a further few feet and they will be safe! We've had our rescue 5 years now and wouldn't be without her. If you have any questions or need anything feel free to message. You can reach me gere or on the dogs (don't judge me!!!) Instagram rosie_the_lurcher good luck with the doggo!!
Has anyone here ever owned a Lurcher on 14:49 - May 8 with 1087 views | Ryorry | My old Italian Spinone (hunt/point/retrieve) boy has always had a very sensitive tum. I feed him a pure grain-free kibble (Simpsons potato & chicken with proper chicken, no 'meal' or 'additives') with 1/3 of a 400g wet food tin of meat (usually 60+%) & veg per meal mixed in - again proper meat chunks & gravy + veg, no 'meat meal', fillers, additives etc. and I do *not* add water to it. Check that all the ingredients are decent & add up to nearly 100%. Since doing this, he hardly ever farts, unlike me. I also give him a variety of charcoal biscuit treats, which are reputed to aid digestion & help reduce wind.
