Champions League Final entry issues last night…. 07:38 - May 29 with 5326 views | ITFC_Forever | Liverpool fans there over 2 hours before kick-off late getting in due to UEFA shutting the gates. There will be some as always who will go down the usual anti-Liverpool rhetoric, but as one of ours was there (BL), it’ll be interesting to read his version of it.

Champions League Final entry issues last night…. on 13:32 - May 29 by Bramidan | Never the Liverpool fans is it? If you go abroad behave yourselves or accept the consequences, the police don’t hang back. Why oh why when British clubs play abroad do we suddenly seem surprised that there are problems. Don’t you think it might have something to do with the amount of alcohol consumed and the idea that the rules don’t apply, no ticket never mind. |
Maybe read some of the sources at the stadium (not all British) rather than lazily chuck out blame at the easiest target?

Champions League Final entry issues last night…. on 13:41 - May 29 by Cheltenham_Blue | Errrr. Not in this case. What a ridiculous post. Wasn't it you that was having a similarly misinformed pop about Women's football a while back? This from fans who were there. "Will, from Liverpool, said he took his 84-year-old mother, who uses a wheelchair, to the game, but were turned away at the turnstiles. "We both had genuine tickets but were told they were fake and when she asked the police office to hand her ticket back, she was pepper sprayed and rolled off behind a cage so she could 'calm down'," he told BBC Sport. "When she tried to leave, one of the police officers put some sort of bike lock around her wheelchair and this wasn't released until the game was finished. [Post edited 29 May 2022 13:52]

Jeezus. I hope someone filmed that so she has some chance of action being taken against the police responsible for such appalling (& I'd have thought illegal) behaviour. Generally, am increasingly getting the unpleasant feeling that Liverpool fans being treated like that last night, & their being ignorantly labelled all over again this morning, is arising out of some deliberate or unconscious desire from some quarters to "get their own back" for historical incidents.

Common denominator? Or is this to difficult for you to comprehend. 39 Italian fans died but we never hear much about that do we? With reference to my view on woman’s football, what does that have to do with it? I think woman’s football has no entertainment value, happy?

In reference to Heysel, a number of Liverpool fans were jailed for their part. Also, I think I’m tight in saying that the club and their fans have accepted responsibility for that disaster and have apologised. They didn’t try to cover-up that low point in their history.
Champions League Final entry issues last night…. on 19:13 - May 29 with 933 views | Radlett_blue | Some very intelligent comments on this thread. It seems the organisation was woeful, which you would hope wouldn't happen at an established large, modern stadium which has hosted many large football matches. It seems ridiculous that a large number of Liverpool fans, who had arrived early, were made to wait outside the ground for 2 hours. I accept that ticketless fans or, more likely, some with forged tickets may have caused problems. This now seems a recurring problem & something needs to be done about it. The theory, as some said after Hillsborough, is to set up security check points further from the stadium, but this isn't always practical, as was shown by the chaos before the Euro final at Wembley. It does seem that when certain British clubs get to European finals, this is usually a big problem & it seems there is a culture of "turn up & have a go", not helped by Paris being so accessible. Some of the ports where in chaos on Saturday. I think there were also big problems when Liverpool played in the EC final in Istanbul in 2005. I bet UEFA & the stadium organisers don't take any responsibility & blame Liverpool fans without tickets. The French police with be the same as the English police & won't accept that they did anything wrong.

Quite apart from the fact that I haven't even mentioned womens' football, there is so much wrong with your post that I couldn't cover it all if I spent the next hour detailing a reply.

Well apart from tens of thousands of eyewitness accounts, including that of the Spanish Secretary of State for Culture & Sport, numerous reporters from around the world & the UK (incl Gary Linkeker & other BBC journos) - none whatsoever

Champions League Final entry issues last night…. on 09:19 - May 30 with 745 views | Churchman | I see the French sports minister has waded in saying the blame lies with Liverpool supporters and fake tickets, backing up UEFAs assessment. I presume that if a ticket doesn’t work in the entry machine it must be fake? Is this the case? Or is the convenience to cover their incompetence? Why were there no problems with Real Madrid supporters? Liverpool have one of the worst reputations in Europe for trouble. It’s well earned. They have form and that’ll help France/UEFA with placing the blame. But is this fair? I’ll be very interested in BLs blog on this as somebody who was actually there with no ‘axe to grind’.

Well, when one of the players appears on mainstream TV news saying that rellies & friends of his who he'd given tickets (supplied by Club itself) to were being turned away at the gates & told their tickets were "fake" on the basis of one official's brief eyesight (no scan), you kinda get the picture ... There probably was a tiny minority of fake tix there, but hey, it's L'pool, so no need to bother properly looking, scanning or re-checking. Also eyewitness accounts from many obviously sensible people (incl women & older fans) saying they were basically being teargassed/sprayed/treated brutally just because they were helplessly crowded up against locked gates by colleagues of that same police force - obviously particularly frightening as most will have been only too horribly aware of Hillsborough.

An obvious answer why there weren't the same problems with Real supporters is that there was much higher demand to see the game among Liverpool fans. Slightly off point but I have followed England at almost all the World Cups and Euros and there is always an issue with fake tickets for the big games and it is noticeable how many of the touts are Scousers. No surprise at all then that there would be a lot in circulation for a Champions League final featuring Liverpool. This group bought 19 ! https://www.ladbible.com/sport/liverpool-fans-conned-out-of-19000-after-buying-f Given the Stade de France hosts big football and rugby matches all the time, the late switch from St Petersburg shouldn't have been a big deal. What then was different about this match? From the many eyewitness reports from journalists and videos of events, it looks like an overreaction to the Euros final and possibly Liverpool fans having form by over-aggressive French cops, blocking approaches with police vans to funnel them down tight bottlenecks. Any fake tickets at turnstiles would have compounded delays and chaos, as would use of tear gas and fans (including local French youths) scaling fences, walls and storming gates. Couple of videos here I'm sure the vast majority of Liverpool fans were patient and did absolutely nothing wrong and it is a total disgrace that they were left to queue for hours and tear gassed at football's showpiece final because of shambolic organisation. But it's not a coincidence that trouble keeps occurring at Liverpool matches through factors like numbers of ticketless travelling fans, fake tickets in circulation and bad behaviour by a minority. Bonus video here of a celebrating Real fan being clobbered

There is really simple answer to why where there not similar problems with the Real fans. That is that there were. Just spoke to an LFC fan who used their entrance (his hotel was near that entrance) and he missed 25 mins of the game What happened was the local fans who bunked in caused the police to use violence and aggression to ordinary fans. Like me he saw many locals bunking in. Unlike me, the police at the Madrid end chose not to respond with violence. Seems clear the French police were far more aggressive towards LFC fans than Madrid ones. But there were problems with the organisation at all ends. BL

From what I've heard e.g. from a calm & articulate Liverpool fan on BBC this morning, the organisation was inept. Thousands of Liverpool fans arrived 2-3 hours before the game but were kept waiting for ages in a dangerous, crowded situation & ended up being pepper sprayed & tear gassed by the predictably aggressive French police. The French & UEFA are, as I predicted, blaming Liverpool supporters & forged tickets. No doubt there were some issues with this, but the blame lies squarely with the organisers.
