This 'improved vote share' argument they are using is mental 22:18 - Jun 6 with 3455 viewsDubtractor

Firstly because he actually got a higher vote share vs Jeremy Hunt, but secondly because there was literally no opposition for this vote.

Do they genuinely think that their own MPs, not to mention the media and public, are that stupid?!

boris is finished.

but, actually, in the final round of mp voting when he was elected leader (so the last time tory mps voted) he got 160 votes out of 313. so 51%

this evening he got 59% of the votes of tory mps.

so, comparing the 2 most recent times tory mps have voted he has increased his share. that bits not a lie. but, you are right of course that this time no one was standing against him.

Boris is in Paul Cook territory. He’s scraped a narrow win against Crewe so we are stuck with him for a bit longer. Wakefield could torn out to be his Barrow.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

The Remainers are a smart bunch, and they have waited until a great moment to attack when Johnson is thought to be at his weakest. When they heard what they thought were 'boos' accompanying Johnson up the steps of St Pauls for the jubilee service on some broadcasts, they went in for the kill. Credit to them, they might well be successful yet.

This is not a Remainer/Brexiteer thing at all.

Among the people who handed in letters demanding his resignation were David Davis and Steve Baker who were Brexiteers when Johnson was still a Remainer (The latter was chair of ERG), Penny Morduant, and Andrew Bridgen, one of the most hard-line of all Brexiteers.

What has this got to do with “remainers”?

Are you suggesting this is some kind of underhand plot to de-throne the heroic cheerleader of Brexit? Or have I misunderstood?

which bit didn't you understand??

Voting for Jeremy Hunt as leader ahead of Boris Johnson isn't analogous to having no confidence in Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.

Every conservative MP, 100% of them, went into the last general election expressing their unqualified support for Boris Johnson - now 41% of them have no confidence in him as prime minister.

Wakefield wont.

Tiverton might well be though.

That's been our politics for years.

It should be a scandal and resigning issue that such a crap disingenuous line is being trotted out. But it's too late now… that's the game and too many of us have played along, swallowing and regurgitating similar nonsense.

It is to an extent - but there are other factions & motivations at play.

A good portion of MPs never wanted him in the first place - it was the rank and file that put him there. They broadly still support him and will be taking a dim view of this action against a leader who only two years ago delivered an 80 seat majority.

Whilst this would normally be the beginning of the end for a Tory PM, these are not normal circumstances and BJ is not a normal PM. I can see him hanging on for at least the year, maybe longer. Unless he just decides he's had enough of the aggro.

160 , 107 of them would have swelled boris's vote e.g. hunt of ipswich. so only 53 of the old guard voted for him.
i expect that's totally wrong , just like the improved vote thing

yes the mix of tory mps changed after the election. but it is interesting that only 51% of (then) tory mps wanted him in the first place.

but voting to get rid of a sitting pm is a much higher hurdle than voting amongst a range of alternatives about who you'd most like for the role. so 41% doing the former means boris is finished.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

What is it about Boris you like best - the racism, the homophobia, the corruption, the incompetence or the criminality?

Remainers tricked him into being an openly corrupt incompetent bigot with criminal inclinations, just so's they could oust him.

I wish I knew he was like Cookie. I'd have written a letter to the 1922 committee and got Joe, Blootsy and Mullers to sign it as well. He'd have been gone in 24 hours.
