How are you genuinely feeling about our potential for the season? 11:53 - Jul 4 with 2244 viewsFrimleyBlue

I'm relatively positive about it. I do think Ladapo Is and improvement and I also think Jackson will be am.important player under KM.

I'm a bit caught about midfield... I like the idea of Ball, but I'm still not sure if Morsy is then the attacking CM we meed alongside him... Will we see a change in formation.to have both together but with someone else involved too?

Defence selects itself and of course Walton is the dead cert starter.

Up with or behind the strikers.. Will be interesting to.see how Edwards is used, KVY to. Both could be cover for Burns and put rightful pressure on that side, likewise left hand side with Leigh and Penney and I guess KVY too.

We are almost there I think.

An unknown entity right now.

Our strongest starting XI is only beaten by Sheffield Wednesday, and probably level with Peterborough. BUT, teams like MK Dons, Wycombe, Oxford, Derby are dealing with incomplete squads that will undoubtedly get much better by the end of August.

Teams like Bolton, Charlton, Fleetwood and Shrewsbury are already looking stronger than they did last season, so they will be looking to upset the 'big boys'. I think the league is weaker than it was last season, mainly because you are seeing a lot of movement out of L1 into the Championship, rather than the other way around. That will probably change in August.

We do need better to go up, still think a ST, CAM and LWB is in the offing. But there's no point buying when there are surplus players in the club. No point getting another striker, taking the total to 5 first team strikers, and then hope Pigott goes.

I'll be more optimistic every time someone leaves the club, and opens the door to make an improvement. Right now, if we stick with our squad of 26-27, and everyone else starts filling out their squads with similar/better talent then they had last season, I can't see us improving by much.

...how we are going to score enough goals to worry the top 2.

Of course this may change as we move through the transfer window, but currently we haven't added any real goalscoring consistency to the team.

Burns and Chaplin aside, I can't see a natural finisher in the squad, and we certainly aren't blessed with goalscoring midfielders and defenders.

We don't have anyone that can take a decent set piece and we lack a creative spark behind the forwards.

Football isn't complicated, goals win matches and at the moment I think we will struggle in that area.

This. With what we have got at the moment I think we would struggle to score enough to even make the play-offs let alone the top 2.

If we don't sign another striker then there is a lot of pressure on Ladapo to hit the ground running. I think that Ladapo will thrive on being the main man. But then I thought Pigott was going to be an awesome signing so what do I know?

A couple of quality attacking players added and the whole picture would change. Chaplin needs to start week in week out this season I think.

I think Chaplin starting more regularly will see him be closer to 15 than 10.

Burns might not hit 12 again, but 7-10 and with him putting balls in, Ladapo compensates for Bonne's loss for me with 12-18 goals.

Jackson will hit double figures.

Edwards and Aluko deputise where they can't and whilst not likely to be anywhere near as prolific, if the strikers stay fit, then we're in a good place in terms of goals.

Morsy is quality and I think him further forward with his quick feet will create chances.

We'll be fine, injures aside.

I find this sort of fatalism about our attacking options a bit perplexing. Wigan's forwards last season were Will Keane, Stephen Humphrys, Callum Lang, Charlie Wyke, James McClean, Josh Magennis and Gwion Edwards. Some good players in there, for sure, but nothing out of this world.

You don't need superstars. We can definitely make an effective attacking unit out of the players already at the club.

Nervous.

We have a burden of expectation on us, but as a fanbase, we are so used to under-achieving, it feels like a lot of pressure to live up to.

The owners, coaching staff and vast majority of players don't have the history of crapness weighing them down, but I'm not 100% convinced where the goals are going to come from, albeit the transfer window has a long way to run yet.

dramatically reduce the number of goals a team needs to win matches.

We beat a lot of dreadful teams under McKenna, like really poor. The better teams we were much of a muchness. Nothing to make me think that we will get ourselves automatics this year but possibly be in and around the playoffs. However the summer window so far has been very underwhelming imo. Ladapo could be an asset as part of a rotating frontline. Leigh will be ok as will Ball but nothing to take us up a level. IIRC we were told we would be looking to recruit the same level of player if we were L1 or championship. If they were our championship signings we'd be f***ed.

I would feel better if we replaced Celina, Bonne, and Norwood with better. So far I haven't seen that, but that was a chunk of our goals we have missing, Ball isn't a Celina-style midfielder, Lapado scored 15 for Rotherham and the kid from Arsenal hardly set anywhere on fire yet. Jackson isn't going to magically turn from a 5-goal-a-season striker to a 20-goaler in my view either, as for Piggott I would be surprised if he ever scored for Ipswich again. We also need a center-half and another full-back for cover in my view.

I am going to say we'll finish outside of the Playoffs as things stand, but with a proven striker and attacking midfielder added, there's no reason we couldn't make the playoffs.

I would say automatics are a mile off, I think Derby, Wednesday, MK Dons, and Peterborough will be fighting for those. I'd even say Bolton could be a contender.

That will not be a popular view, but I think many are over-rating our team and chances a lot and are going to be disappointed again.

I’m not convinced we’ve fixed the issue that caused us to draw very winnable games at the end of last season yet.

For me, there’s too much hope/expectation on Burns having another phenomenal season, KJ needs to fire from the start AND stay fit and we desperately need to add goals across the pitch.

I’d be amazed if we made top 2. Optimism says playoffs but reality always plays a part in that.

Think we need another 2 or 3 to come in yet.
