Ian Westlake on 23:36 - Jul 4 by BondiBlue | Westlake? He did go to Leeds. Does this mean Leeds also fell for the ficticious rumour and submitted all the necessary paperwork? |
Hence the "?". Was it Sheffield Wednesday he made the rumour up about? This is why I never comment on football matters.

Ian Westlake on 23:58 - Jul 4 by Churchman | Yep, Darren Bent for me too. He genuinely looked like he’d make the grade in the PL almost from the off. And most of his career was subsequently played at that level and for his country. Different level to what followed. Biggest disappointment was Bowditch. At 16, what talent. Like many players, he just never kicked on. Tbf, he made a good career in the lower leagues and very few people achieve that, but I just thought he was an outstanding prospect as a yoof/start of his senior career. |
Every week it used to get to 65-70 minutes and the whole crowd would start chanting 'deeeano' until either he came on or we ran out of subs. You could set your watch to it. Must have annoyed BFJ no end.

Oh, don’t. That really was a sliding doors moment in hindsight.

Ian Westlake on 22:26 - Jul 4 by XYZ | Didn't Bully start some fictitious transfer rumour on here about him joining Leeds (?) that ended up in one of the nationals? |
Wigan, not nationals, one of the locals here.

Ian Westlake on 21:46 - Jul 4 by MattinLondon | Matt Richards was treated really badly here. Not the best player we’ve ever had but far worse have been given a far easier ride than him. |
I remember thinking he was rubbish, but in hindsight as a 10/11 year old I think I was probably just going with the overall feeling in the ground, he wasn't that bad at all.

Matt Richards had a solid career in the lower leagues, largely as an industrious midfield player. He wasn't good enough for Town when we were an ambitious 2nd tier club & this was recognised by Royle, who brought in Unsworth & Magilton, who loaned him out to League 1 Brighton. However, the crowd giving him stick when he got on the ball clearly didn't help a young player.

Matt Richards was some peoples scapegoat. As you say treated very badly. Both Richards and Westlake particularly the latter had their best moments for Town while thriving in the Joe Royle's team. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We went through a period of our left backs being peoples scapegoats. In someways it's still going, although not as badly as with Richards.

Ian Westlake on 10:59 - Jul 5 with 382 views | BonneNIL | I would say Matt Richards and Ian Westlake were both vastly underrated when they were here, Westlake was swapped for Harding, and while Harding was okay, he wasn't as good for us as Westlake was, and Matt Richards is in the unique group of unfairly maligned Town players such as Scowcroft, Chambers and recently Bonne.

Bonne maligned? By who and by how? Saying that he was completely out of form isn't an insult. Saying that we need a better striker than him to help us get out of this league isn't an insult either. [Post edited 5 Jul 2022 11:08]

People called him lazy, shte, and whatnot when he clearly wasn't. Just look at the social media stuff from the other day, you'd have thought he scored 1 all season. As for doing better than him, I would agree, but we haven't signed anyone yet I would consider better than he and Norwood, and there lies our problem. Neither Chaplain nor Jackson are going to turn into 30-goal-a-season strikers either. We do need better, but I'm not seeing where it is coming from right now.
