The loanee count - What a difference! 15:44 - Jul 17 with 2127 viewscbower

Just the one right now. A few years back we had one too many for the matchday squad ffs! Celina would most likely increase that figure of course but quality instead of the previous policy of making up more tha a quarter of the first team squad.

I was thinking about this the other day esp those we picked up under Mick and where they are now.

Likes of Ben Pringle, Paul Green etc, currently at Altriand Boston utd respectively, loan players should add to a squad not just pad it out as we did for so many years

We had some good ones - Fraser and Lawrence - under Mick too.

We did but so we should with 4 or 5 in the squad, you can add Celina to that list too. Still always felt like there was some padding for me.

It was more those January "we just need a little bit of help" signings that seemed completely pointless, perhaps we can pull a list togher, Mick onwards

Of course but not a right lot of space in the squad unless some are moved / left out.

thanks for the list. so was 2002 the start of loans for us. as i say i can't remember in the years before 2002 having any., and i started in the ramsey era going to portman road.
also looking at that list ,we never had *success with them.
success = promotion

Niklas Gudmunsson … striker. Late 90s I think. I remember him hitting the post against The Blades in the playoffs. He was pretty decent but it was never made permanent.

Edit…just seen his name in the list above. My bad!

First loanee, I believe, was goalkeeper Roy Tunks who came from York City in 1973/74 but didn't play a game.

People get so hung up on loans.

I agree, if they aren't any better than what we have then yes its a waste. But if they improve the team it's OK.

We've had some good loans, we've had some bad loans..................just like all the other clubs.
