Re; all this inflation sh1t 22:11 - Jul 27 with 3521 views | Lord_Lucan | Now then, now then. Posting this in conjunction with a thread that got involved with inflation - of which I said I would post a thread about it. Confused - so am I. Anyhoo, dear reader. You ain’t seen nuffink yet. Any board regulars (sad motherfeckers) on here will know that for the past 2 (Teletext TWO) years I have been moaning about the quadrupling of freight prices and how this is gonna kill the price of everything. Naturally no one listened because Lucan, as we all know, is a tvvat. Now look here baby. Mark these words! The inflation you are seeing now is nothing to do with energy prices, it is to do with freight. By the time the energy price sh1t hits the market ( I would guess at three months or so) that’s when you / we / are in a muddle. The cost of living hike at the moment is nothing to do with energy - we have that to come. It’s a bit like a nuclear bomb, we are about to get the second wave. Genuinely not trying to worry people, if anything I’m giving fair warning. Lock up your hatches. [Post edited 27 Jul 2022 22:20]

Re; all this inflation sh1t on 11:17 - Jul 28 by Lord_Lucan | The pound crashed v Dollar after Brexit, I acknowledge that and it was actually my biggest fear and one of the reasons i voted remain. But The Euro is also in pretty poor shape. I'm not downplaying Brexit but we really have to move on - Our European brothers have exactly the same freight, energy and inflation problems. Did you know London almost shut down last week? We had to pay an emergency price to Belgium of £9,724.54 per megawatt hour which is 5,000% higher than the typical price in order to prevent parts of London having a black out. |
That's funny, cos most of last week I was blackout drunk. Probably wouldn't have noticed.

Re; all this inflation sh1t on 11:23 - Jul 28 with 1026 views | blueasfook | We are all going to need to huge pay rises next year to keep up with inflation. But then that has the effect of feeding even higher inflation. We're fooked. No expensive holidays next year :( There wont be much spare cash.

Re; all this inflation sh1t on 13:39 - Jul 28 with 893 views | Mookamoo | Had a walk round Ipswich town centre yesterday - not been in for a while. I was quite shocked by the amount of rough sleepers there are now. You used to see a few hanging about near the Black Horse or near the church on Dial Lane, maybe 6-8 in total. I counted 22 yesterday.

One of my best mates's job is to re home them - now, I'm not attempting to trivialise the matter but most of the time they don't want to know. He had a massive problem during lockdown as they wouldn't budge. The homeless situation in Norwich is completely off the scale. I had a long chat with one just before Covid and he said that some bods came down from Nottingham and thought it was easy pickings and then word got out and a load more came down When the soup kitchen comes out at night near the market there are swarms of them - you simply wouldn't believe it of a place like Norwich. We employ a guy in the shop whose girlfriend kicked him out on NYE and he was temporarily homeless, he eventually got given emergency accommodation but if he wasn't home by 11pm they would assume he had left and would clear all his stuff out - one strike and you're out!

Re; all this inflation sh1t on 10:58 - Jul 28 by Cotty | It certainly doesn't help that oil is costed in $ and we have lost 20% on the dollar due to Brexit. I think you underplay its impact here. |

Nottingham has had a really bad problem with homeless people as well. Did some work with them through work and feel awfully sorry for them but outside of letting a few designated charities deal with it there's almost nowt you can do.

Re; all this inflation sh1t on 15:21 - Jul 28 with 751 views | noggin | I said a couple of weeks ago, every Norwegian energy supplier has stopped offering fixed price electricity. They know what's coming. Glad I fixed mine in December for 3 years.

Brexit is responsible for a lot, but not in relation to energy prices. The wider context is Sterling has somewhat stabilised against the EURO. GBP weakness against the dollar is being driven by Fed actions creating a very strong dollar - see JPY for example. And $US is virtually at parity EUR now.

Any insight as to what might happen to £/€ if the ECB start to raise interest rates?

I certainly wouldn’t want to give any financial advice! My thoughts are that 1.2 is about right for where it should sit. BoE are suggesting numerous hikes at our end. Eurozone is also more exposed the the energy crisis (Germany) and will be in for a rough winter!

I think we will toddle back up to 1.32 or thereabouts - but not until the leadership contest is done and dusted. I was reminiscing today about getting 2.08 - around 2008 or 2009

Re; all this inflation sh1t on 10:00 - Jul 28 by Lord_Lucan | On this one occasion I would say that Brexit is actually pretty irrelevant. It's a global problem and it started due to a lack of available containers because they were all stuck on ports throughout the world full of PPE. The Chinese then went on a massive container building campaign and availability is pretty much back to normal but the shipping companies are now profiteering - and it's blatant. The fact that none of our politicians have bought this up is nothing short of a disgrace, they probably don't even know what's happening. I was going to write to Hunt but decided that was pointless as he is a cretin so I wrote to Clive Lewis who is MP where our office is - and I have heard nothing. Even Biden has addressed the matter now. |
Globalism is a bit sh1t really isn't it!
