The Tractor Boys tag 14:14 - Aug 21 with 4741 views | Menton | I’m pretty sure it was first used by the Birmingham fans in about 97 or 98 at Portman Road. They were singing ‘no noise from the Tractor Boys’ at us and when we scored we retorted with ‘1-0 to the Tractor Boys’. Can anyone confirm that? May have been Stoke (the mind is hazy)

The Tractor Boys tag on 12:25 - Aug 22 with 705 views | Freddies_Ears | The first time I ever heard the term 'Tractor Boys' was away to Birmgham, probably 98 (possibly 99). I had never come across it previously, but that was very early in my time following Town. First was the 'No noise from the Tractor Boys' chant from Brum. So, the term could have been used earlier for the first time, but it certainly hadn't caught on.

The Tractor Boys tag on 14:32 - Aug 21 by franz_tyson | It was coined by Warren Clarke in an episode of Lovejoy circa 1989. Clarke was portraying a ITFC supporting refuse collector when a tractor sped past along a country lane. Atop the tractor were 3 Town fans clad in blue and white and , no doubt, heading to the game. "Up the Tractor Boys" , roared Clarke's character - and hence, from that moment on, Town were then known as the Tractor Boys. |
Really? Drama channel have just re-run the whole series and I did pick up the episode 'Bin Diving' a few weeks back and must have seen these episodes repeated several times over the years. This one was 1991 by the way. Never picked up Warren Clarke's reference to Tractor Boys though. This particular episode with Warren and his Town baseball hat is however, the reason those feeble minded fools north of the Waveney refer to us as 'binners'.

I may be wrong, but I rather think that it was first used by Aulus Plautius when the Romans first pushed into Trinovantian lands in about AD 45. The legions were chanting "Nulla vox a pueris tractor" until Pablo Cunobellin stuck one in the top corner, and the Septentriones Sto started singing back "unum nil ad tractor puerorum" in ironic mockery.

I hate it being used to describe us. Christ knows why anyone likes the the tag. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
