What’s the best bookshop you’ve ever been to? 13:43 - Sep 10 with 5331 views | Pique | I think for me it would be Barter Books in Alnwick, Northumberland. A huge second hand bookshop in an old train station on the edge of the town. A truly beautiful building and setting, with a cafe in the old waiting room and miles and miles of books - I could lose myself in there for days. Genuinely interested to hear if anyone else has a favourite, either in the UK or overseas.

What’s the best bookshop you’ve ever been to? on 02:57 - Sep 12 by Pablo_Counago | For me, this is my favourite: https://www.gdavidbookseller.com/ Located in Cambridge Especially good as I love antiquarian books. Found a couple really nice, rare books in there and the prices are usually below 'market value' |
On the subject of 'market value' for books, have you found a website that does for books what Discogs does for vinyl ? By this I mean that if you have an old vinyl LP that you think might be worth a bit and look it up on eBay there are invariably six or seven listings that ask £50 to £100 for it, but none of them have any bids so far altough you might be left with the impression that it is worth something...until you look it up on Discogs and find out that 600 have been sold, another 800 are on offer and the going price is around £1.99.

Independent yes, lots of books yes but I wouldn’t call it large!

What’s the best bookshop you’ve ever been to? on 14:02 - Sep 10 by Mullet | No idea what it is called, but there was in central Lisbon so olde worldy and full of sights I sent a picture to HarryfromBath. Never been in a place like it. In terms of how good it was a book shop, probably not a lot as I don't speak Portuguese, so I'll go with Manchester Waterstones instead. |
I would think the bookshop I would enjoy most from a visit would be that of HarryfromBath - that is, assuming he wouldn't be too busy to have a chat.

What’s the best bookshop you’ve ever been to? on 12:47 - Sep 12 with 788 views | Chondzoresk | Maggs Bros, London. I have sold to them the odd thing over the years. They deal in fine books and manuscripts. Incredible place. Honourable mention to Cox Books who were on Silent Street Ipswich for many years. Since gone.

Unfortunately I haven't. I usually just see what the going prices on Ebay are for the book or what the original pricing is. A discogs for books could be a great idea actually. I already love Discogs so a similar site for books would be lovely

Just looked this up and I'm going to wander over after work as it is only 10 mins from my office. Thanks!

I wouldn't plunge to those depths. It's not like everyone here is from Haverhill, or one of those type of overflow towns.

Very appropriate in this centenary year of the publication of 'Ulysses'.
