I’m going to be home alone on Monday so that I can do some gardening and DIY without ‘help’ from two small boys. I’ve overestimated how long it’ll do to do each job and my other half has brought it. And hopefully I’ll have a few hours too while away.
I’m not a big gamer but please can someone recommend a game like GTA V on the PS4? The only games I own are GTA V, Red Dead 2 and FIFA 20. Looking for recommendations - cheers.

- Cyberpunk 2077 got hammered at launch, but is better now. It’s possibly the most similar to GTA. - The Horizon games are good, good for solo campaign that doesn’t take too long to get into (it’s a bit RDR, but without cowboys). More 1 dimensional that GTA though (most things are) - I’m a Destiny2 nut, which I highly recommend, but it’s not GTA-esque and you need a second life to do it justice. It’s core game is free though, and that’s all you’d need for a spare day or three. - Uncharted games are good solo campaigns - oh, and Assassin’s Creed series could be worth a look for open world stuff with side quests. Pick your period - Odyssey (Ancient Greece) and Origins (Egypt) are both good. The newest one is viking- Valhalla. I don’t know what that’s like though

Thanks.
It’s a really personal thing, so hard to suggest stuff. If you want to get the most out of a day, a linear campaign might work. If you haven’t played the original The Last Of Us, it’s excellent. You don’t get any options, it’s just A-B, but it’s really immersive with excellent story telling.
Fallout games are another option that are a bit like GTA. You find your way around a post apocalyptic open world - I’ve played one of the earlier ones and enjoyed it.
I would suggest cyberpunk but I don’t think it will run well if at all on a PS4. Maybe some of the Saints Row games? They’re pretty similar to GTA, I can’t remember what the last one was but I’m sure it would be available on PS4

I’ve not played, but the link I posted above reckons Saints Row The Third is the best. Could be a good call.
I've never been much of a Saints Row fan but I would definitely avoid the new one - has been absolutely panned for being buggy and poorly made.
Cyberpunk could be good for you, but I would check out how well it is now running on PS4 as even with the improvements they have made, I have heard that it still struggles with that console.
My recommendation would be the remake of the original Mafia game, or Mafia 2 or 3 - all pretty decent and similar enough.
Wildcard suggestion of a game called Rustler, which is a medieval game that plays like the original GTA from the 90s. Quite funny, not that expensive, but not comparable with GTAV.
Other than that, all of Swansea's suggestions are pretty much what I would have said.

Yes, Mafia. How could I forget? I played the first one and it was very good.
Matty buh, you’re going to need more that part of a day!

I’m beginning to think like that as well. Or just a few hours to get into a game before doing the odd hour here-and-there.
It took me three years to compete GTA V as I don’t really have time to play - it was the first game I’ve ever completed and was really surprised that end credits appeared when completed. By completed I mean the storyline as there always things to do in it.

That’s the problem I’ve found with Destiny. It never ends. Season after season, always new stuff, new things to do each week. Brilliant game and you make good friends through it, but it’s a huge time suck. D2 launched 6th Sept 2017. I’ve just checked my play time and it’s 3,574 hours. That’s 148.875 days in 5 yrs! Nuts really, especially as most of it is around 10-midnight to fit around work and family.

You could try Watchdogs, Watchdogs 2 or Watchdogs Legion. They are all very similar to GTA V but with high tech gadgetry and hacking capabilities.

Have you tried the Watchdog trilogy? Essentially GTA with ‘hacking’. First one has darker vibes, second is the best IMO, and the third one is set in London so pretty cool for that alone. Some subtle satirical humour in them too.

You can get ridiculously good deals on The Witcher 3, if you are after a great single player game. But you will need a lot more than time than a few hours.

I’m really enjoying Hitman Trilogy at the moment. I played the first episodic one years ago and it never really grabbed me, but they’ve tweaked it over the years and added mission stories etc which make it a lot more noob-friendly and now it’s one of my favourite ever games

If you like Red Dead you’ll enjoy Ghosts of Tshusima. Alternatively, if you want big open world with no rules, check out DayZ for an apocalyptic survival journey.
I normally flick between these two, PubG, Elden Ring and a bunch of others.

I might have to try some reccs in this thread too. I’m currently on the first temple of Zelda Skyward Sword on Switch. Once done with that I’ll need something new.

DayZ is a great cult game. It’s a bit laggy and has its flaws but if you get on a good server with a good crew of people, it’s a great game. There’s another couple of survival apocalyptic games being released in the New Year if you’re into that kind of RPG: The Day Before and State of Decay 3.
Ghosts of Tshusima has a great open world map which is up there with Red Dead for aesthetics although I don’t think anything will come quite as close to what Rockstar put out.

No-one seems to have mentioned far cry. 3 is pretty good, not sure about the newer ones. I love metal gear solid 5 as well. I own red dead and fallout but never really got into them. I'm not so much a fan of the rpg bits. Just give me an open world shooter any day.
