Actively looking to Emigrate now 11:57 - Sep 27 with 14993 viewshype313

Both myself and my partner have discussed it for a few years and now we are both at the point where we think its time to leave blighty, can't believe we stuck around the past 6-7 years and looking forward, it's grim, even if Labour get in in 2024.

Both kids are in early stages at school so minimal disruption there, the only thing I'll miss is going to PR every other week, but that's it, and certainly not a strong enough pull to keep us here.

Sad state of affairs, but just can't see a promising future in this country for us or our children.

You'd describe going to the Isle Of Wight for the summer as "living overseas"?

I'd not be too bothered by someone from Bungay (other locations are available) describing it as such.

So in that respect am happy enough if someone feels they've had that experience.

Why not.

Edit: I can't believe you downvoted me for describing the Solent factually!

You're in a mean-spirited mood.

Do you ever bump into Mich D'Avray? He lives in Perth. His son owns a supermarket, I believe.

Steve Stacey lives there too.

Just discovered he's recently written a book.

Yes something I really want to do. Came close about 4 years ago.

My other half is not as keen as me which is a bit of a problem but I would move to Melbourne or Sydney in a flash.

The weather is the big driver for me.

Melbourne looks to have pretty grotty Winters and even now in Spring looks pretty meh!

How stupid are you?? Overseas means over the sea and isle of wight is over the sea so its overseas..... Do i need to draw a picure lol

Not as stupid as you, thankfully. No it doesn't mean anything that's over the sea. It means a foreign country.

overseas
adverb
/əʊvəˈsiːz/
in or to a foreign country, especially one across the sea.
"he spent quite a lot of time working overseas"
adjective
/ˈəʊvəsiːz/
from, to, or relating to a foreign country, especially one across the sea.
"overseas trips"

I read what you said properly the first time thanks.

You were replying to this comment:
"When I was younger, I found a good balance working overseas for about 3-4 months of the year. I'd spend anything up to 6 weeks at a time away. It was great in breaking up the monotony and routine at home, gave you experiences of being somewhere new..."

You replied;
"Same used to do summer work overseas on the isle of wight."

I can guarantee that person meant in a foreign country, experiencing a foreign culture. You weren't. You were on the Isle Of Wight.

I don't think so, a current poster with a track record of comedy creations.

Actually, Blueas could be one of his too (but I think other posters who go to matches have seen them in the same room at the same time.)

There is a misconception that all of Australia has great weather, but Melbourne (especially) isn't like that at all - probably the best comparison is the Atlantic coast of France. So lovely in summer, but pretty wet, cold and windy in Winter.

For other comparisons:
- Sydney is similar to Portugal (Lovely most of the year, but with a fair bit of rain in winter)
- Perth is similar to Mediterranean Greece (Clear blue skies for nine months a year, hot and dry, chilly winters but will often get into the low 20s with clear blue skies - Perth has more sunshine hours than any other city in Australia)
- Adelaide is similar to Mediterranean France (Nicer than Melbourne, but still have wet days during summer and winter is very seasonal)
- Brisbane is similar to Mediterranean Egypt (Hot for half a year, warm for the rest, incredibly humid)
- Darwin, Northern Western Australia and Northern Queensland are sub-tropical and like India.
- Hobart (Tasmania) is actually very very similar to the UK

Sydney also has a fair bit of rain in spring, summer and autumn. Second la nina summer in a row coming up meaning more floods. Could be worse, before it was la nina it was drought and massive bushfires. Weather's not all it's cracked up to be.

Poll: Which would you accept?
