OK, so the new job involves taking groups of foriegn tourists all round the UK, guided tours essentially. I love it! One of the common things to be done is to curate a playlist of 'best of British' songs and bands to play during the tour. I've put one together and it's almost 24 hours long played through, but it will be on shuffle for my own sanity as well as that of those on multi days tours.
All nationalities, all age groups from 6 upward, what should I include that I may have missed? We're talking rock and pop generally.

Some good ones there thank you, though Turning Japanese was The Vapours unless I'm mistaken.
Have got some Beautiful South and clearly EEJB once I realised it was on Spotify. I will talk about it when I have yanks on board too, see if I can rustle up a few more halfway interested fans across the pond. I do tell them it's compulsory to have an English soccer club that is there's regardless of how little they know otherwise they are falling behind the rest of the world.
Yes Ive edited it to Vapours!!
If you have Yanks on the bus you have to have a "running towards adversity" banner
Half Man Half Biscuit - Westward Ho! Massive Letdown
The regional suggestion, is that a song or one of your posts?
Have got Valerie included so I can ensure they're aware Mark Ronson is one of ours.

Yardbirds - for your love Animals - house of the rising sun Gerry and the pacemakers - you'll never walk alone
Nice thank you, thought I'd added Gerry.

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen
Talk Talk - Life's what you make it
Ride - Vapour Trail
Suede
The The

Good suggestions. I'm a big Dexy's fan, love the first album as one of my all time favourites but absolutely hate 'Eileen'. Might throw Geno in there perhaps? Or maybe Celtic Soul Brothers, anything but Eileen.
What would you go with for The The? Infected?

Was just going by the ones that might be most recognised by the punters. Totally agree I wouldn't 'choose' to listen to Eileen myself.

The The - I'd probably say for purposes of this - This is The Day or Uncertain Smile, myself.

Slade Pet shop boys Roxy Music T Rex Joe Cocker Adele Take that (I know it will be painful Deacon Blue Feeder Supergrass Happy Mondays Adamski Rick Astley Black Lace Stormzy Sex Pistols The Dammed Paulo Nutini Garbage Texas Wham The Specials Duran Duran Spandau Ballet Motor head The faces The small faces Status Quo Pink Floyd The Streets Shed 7 The Libertines Fat boy Slim The Housematins The beautiful South
I suppose you should add some radiohead and Coldplay if you can stand it
I'm still adding to that list rather than continue to interrupt the thread.
Some good shouts on there, stuff I'd totally overlooked like Joe Jackson, cheers.

Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span - generally the rockier end of folk.
Roxy Music, then on into '80s electropop (Depeche Mode, OMD, Eurythmics, Ultravox).
Hawkwind when driving past Stonehenge.
Right, Rockier end of Folk, I don't know this, though actually quite like it when I hear it. This is the sort of stuff I'll miss out on, suggestions especially welcome.
