Chaplin / Harness 09:06 - Oct 27 with 1658 views | Wickets | From memory it seems as though KM has not been starting these two together much of late ? have i got this right has KM decided they are similar or maybe its just the recent form of Edwards .
Chaplin / Harness on 09:11 - Oct 27 with 1628 views | iamipswich | I think you're right and that it's probably a mix of both of their drop off in form plus Edwards picking up. And Jackson playing ok.

Chaplin / Harness on 09:13 - Oct 27 with 1618 views | Asa | There seems to be something up with Chaplin at the moment, which may just be confidence, but I've noticed a few bits before the matches and before he has come on when he hasn't started. On Tuesday, the players did shooting drills against Hladky. Jackson, Edwards, Ladapo were smashing them in and Chaplin didn't score once when I was watching. He was dragging everything wide. Weirdly, and I have never seen this before, he then moved away from the group into the actual goal and was having balls fed into him and smashing them into an empty net from 6 yards! Seemed really odd to be doing that. Whether he's carrying a bit of a knock or just off his game who knows, but last 3-4 games even his passing, dribbling, everything really has seemed right off. Players have bad spells. It happens. But the way he's broken away from the main group for his own little sessions a few games running makes me wonder if he's raised something with the coaches and they've given him his own little bits to do for whatever reason. Such a great player when he's on it, so hopefully something goes in for him soon and he's back to his early season form.

They have both been very wasteful in recent games. Lots of poor passes and trying to get glory goals that end up in row Z. After good starts to the season they both seem to be thinking that they don’t have to try! I’m sure they don’t but Harness in particular has really dropped off. Very lazy and poor passing. Maybe the Cup games will sort him out. Neither of them should be ahead of Humphreys or Edwards at the moment but it shouldn’t take KM long to sort them out!
Chaplin / Harness on 09:56 - Oct 27 with 1433 views | bluefunk | They started together in 5 of the last 10 and 4 of the last 7, but I think it’s just a sign of the squad depth and competition for places, rather than KM avoiding any particular combination.
Chaplin / Harness on 09:57 - Oct 27 with 1426 views | FrimleyBlue | Imo the two are just 2 similar. Balls bounce off both of then. But they are both good runners and work hard. For me together it just doesn't click

Most of the warm up shooting drills involve the ball being fed directly back to the player before they shoot or take a touch and then shoot. Many of our goals (particularly from the 10s) have come from pull backs with the ball coming across the player. I think Chaplin's drill actually makes more sense as hitting a ball coming in from the side requires different technique to the one that they practice

He's got a point though. Harness' first touch leaves a lot to be desired and I've made my feelings about Chaplin's forward passing known. Both good runners, hard workers, get into the right spaces etc. But both lack a bit of composure especially in the build up and on the counter. Chaplin especially more often than not will hit a wayward pass when we're breaking which leaves Burns caught up the pitch. Not saying they're bad players; I think they both have good qualities for this League. But having someone like Edwards in one of those positions gives us a whole different dynamic. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Why it's such a good thing that we're sharing goals and starting slots around among the team. Means we aren't stuffed when someone's form drops, just rotate around until they are back on song again.

I know what you mean about Chaplin but I love that he tries it, and it does come off to good effect at times - though less often recently. He particularly likes to switch the play if we've got a throw in in the right back slot, he'll spin and volley it out wide left to open the pitch up. Also note his half volleyed pass to Burns to put him in on goal on Tuesday night, which Burns took a heavy touch on (and then took out the keeper).

I must admit to not being overly impressed by Harness full stop. He scored some good goals at the beginning of the season but I think that papered over some cracks. Seems to get dispossessed far too easily and his final ball hasn't been great. Was a moment in the first half vs Derby where he had done the hard part then simply had to lay TJJ in with an easy pass but it was badly over hit. I'd like to see TJJ and Edwards start in the wide positions for a while. Think TJJ can be better out wide than through the middle.

I personally think Harness is better as a striker in a 2 which of course we won't see. It doesn't matter. But I don't feel he's a great 10. His goal when played through recently showed his composure to finish, its just for me he's not great back to goal and players tight to him, he just seems to run into trouble as he can't get away. Same with JJ. This is why Edwards looked so promising on left of the 10 role. He can hold the ball, get away from his marker and make things happen.
