Anyone ever stayed there? If so, is it passable for a bed and a shower for the night of the Cheltenham game?

Penta has gone up 50% since I stayed there the day of the Pompey game.

It did strike me it has had an overhaul because it seemed freshly painted.

By the way, has anyone ever stayed at the Station Hotel? It's relatively cheap but I assume could be a bit noisy.

I chose not to use it last time because of a bad experience in Pontefract at what I thought was a decent hotel but turned out to be a grotty room above a pub, with a disco until 2am and a perpetual queue outside for the mini-cab office next door.

Actually, Pontefract on a Saturday night was an experience with all the pubs packed at 5pm and all blaring out music. They obviously like their Saturday nights out "oop North".

I haven't stayed at the Station Hotel myself but a friend of mine, an Ipswich fan from Streatham has, and he was happy enough. Certainly handy for trains, the ground and Central Ipswich.

Yes not sure why the hotel prices have gone up so much for next weekend. I always stay at the mermaid, anywhere between 50 and 70 pounds normally, but its 108 for the day of the cheltenham game.

Yes it’s fine.

Stayed in a room without a window and actually liked the feeling of not having any idea what time of day it was when I woke up

Well I take back what I said in an earlier post about not caring if a room had a window. Stayed in Glasgow on Tuesday night (£47.55 including cooked breakfast, reasonably central location) and the lack of a window was getting to me after about an hour the next morning.

Just to make myself even more unpopular on this forum I thought I would let on that I am paying £32.84 for a windowless room at the easyHotel next week.

One of the reasons Hotel prices are on the rise, fewer rooms available. A friend recently paid £135 for one night in a Premier Inn in Southampton and that didn’t include breakfast

.

I generally opt for the cheapest decent hotel when travelling and when I say decent, I don't mean 5 Star. Premier Inn is usually my first look.

Recently though Premier Inns where I have been going are around £180 per night which is crazy - especially as you don't spend any waking time in your room.

Trivago is best place to get a deal.

Bumped into a friend of mine in The Gardeners Arms on Saturday and he was telling me that he recently went to London with his brother and sister to celebrate said brothers 50th. They paid £1,500 a room each in The Savoy and that didn't include breakfast - breakfast was £48

Mind you, they have more money than sense!

I was in Glasgow last week - Indigo @ £100 per night including breakfast.

Nice hotel but ridiculous zero drinks after midnight policy.

Edit - just realised thread is a month old.

Some of the Norwegians stay there when over so I'd assume it's all good.

Don't they just use it as a big locker - somewhere to put their bags, whilst they're out drinking and watching the footy?

What sort of lunatic pricing is that ? £32.84? Hardly easy is it?

Should have said that the rate I got was through booking.com where my occasionally frequent use has got me pushed up to Genius level three or something so they tell me that I get discounts or free breakfasts or something.

Disconcerted after the troubling thread about a dentist offering payment by Klarna that booking.com have also added a Klarna tab on their website.
