Tories are simply unfit to govern. The lot of them.

Braverman should be gone tonight.

A few thousand? Net migration is around 315,00 per year now. It's unsustainable.

The thread was about the asylum system, so the context of my post was that system.

As discussed in another thread, a single number simply mentioned is fairly meaningless.

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/popul

The rate of increase in the UK population is slowing.

And it less tha. 315,000 per year.

When people cite something like 315k is unsustainable, it is a false number used to trigger a concern that the population is rising too fast and can’t be managed.

However, if restated, e.g. why would a 3.2% population growth, over about 10 years be unsustainable? You may get a different response.

One that is more aligned to, hello politicians, you know the population growth is about 3.2% over the next 10-15 years, and you know the demographic breakdown, please can you plan appropriately, thanks.

What's interesting about these stats is that something does not seem to be lining up for me.

Taken from https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63489276

So in this case they wouldn't be the majority of cases, just the largest group but only approximately ~15% from January to June. I'm assuming, given those numbers, there has been a rather startling increase from June onwards if we have gone from just over 2,000 to 12,000 in 5 months.

So what has happened from June to now to cause such a massive increase?

In any case, there's not much we can do once they get here other than process their claims quickly and with compassion and if they are not eligible then they would need to go back to their country of origin.

The system works if we just get the processing speed up but we'd much rather spend millions of pounds trying to get the Navy involved and other very flashy but ultimately pointless policies instead of doing the boring but necessary one.

"The system works if we just get the processing speed up" - quite so.

And if we wanted to destroy the business model of the traffikers then giving people a ticket for a ferry would be cheaper and more effective than any approach we have tried thus far,

It is all well and good to say that the process needs to be speeded up but one of the biggest problems is the extended delays, appeals etc, after the initial decision has been made.

There is an industry making a good living out of the extending process.

Asylum is for those who would be in danger if they were deported back to their country of origin. It isn’t for those who are sitting ply looking for a better quality of life.

We should be targeting those encouraging people to look for a better life style.

Brexit has taken away from UK citizens freedom to move their family to any EU state. No matter how better off you may feel you will be if you sought asylum in an EU Country it is unlikely to be granted.

The system is a complete mess and needs to be sorted , although I suspect many will object to any solutions that are put forward.

But most of those appeals (over 80%) are actually granted, so you say there's a good industry around it but the industry is there because we're creating conditions for it. If we stopped mucking about and rejecting cases we shouldn't then it would speed up.

You might want to check how many asylum applications are won on appeal.

If there was more investment in getting the correct decision made in the first instance, then you'd lower the costs.

Problem about this forum is someone says something different to your views and gets attacked.

Your replies haven't explained anything to GTSB except "they come here because they understand English"

Maybe you should educate him and write reason they come here instead of posting things like this which ultimately is just flannel! It might help him and other understand.

Numerous people have responded to him with specifics and he's not responded to any of them. He just doubles down.

Perhaps you should direct your ire towards those unwilling to debate.

I imagine speaking English is easily top of the list of reasons for those wanting to live in Britain. What explanation are you looking for?

Then, of course, there's the vastly larger numbers who prefer to claim asylum within the EU.

Whoa, steady on old fellow.

Righties won't thank you for introducing reasoned argument and evidence based though into the discussion.

Theirs is a world of paranoia and fear, fuelled by scaremongering by the welthy elite. Much the same lies that saw farm lads from Suffolk pitted against farm lads for Saxony. over 100 years ago.

In a few days we will be asked to remember the millions of deaths, but not the why.

Sadly, as long as there are willing dupes (righties), useful idiots there will be this friction

Perhaps we could have a rightie Xmas this year. One in which the stable is firebombed, the three wise men are turned back in the desert and the shepherds have their wage subsidy cut for taking time off to visit the stable.

And lo, an angel of the Lord (the Daily Mail) came among them and said. "hate to all men (and woman) ....if they have a brown face"

We do not seem to have advanced (in certain quarters), from medieval times with their odd practices and beliefs. Paying tithes to their masters was obligatory, whereas now, paying homage to their masters is an act of incredible stupidity.
