stadium announcer 22:39 - Nov 13 with 5109 viewsfinidi_whooah

For all the positives that have been happening on and off the pitch for past 18 months there is one thing that really irritates me. Stephen foster as stadium announcer. When he reads out the lineups just before Kickoff its as if he doesn't know the lineup until the player is up on the big screen. When Rob Chandler read out the teams it seemed to flow nicely where as Foster bumbles through. There was also a horrible crackle every time his mic was turned on to announce a sub yesterday. On a seperate note, why did the lights in the stands stay on after halftime?

even the choice of music is boring , the whole presentation needs something to get the crowd up , not send them to sleep .

This is entirely the opposite of the situation down the road in Colchester, where the half-time music is routinely the high-point of the afternoon. It's cultured stuff, often featuring Colchester post-punk band Modern English when the easy pick would have been Blur.

I think many aspects of the in-stadium matchday experience need to be revamped.

The music is dull. The interviews are lethargic. There's nothing happening on the pitch at half time. They are not making the most of the screen (anagrams? Its a football match, not Only Connect).

The whole thing needs more bounce, more spectacle. The announcer is a symptom of the wider issue.

Leave off the big screen games are great, especially with nothing else going on.

...on Only Connect.

They have missing vowels.

You're thinking of Countdown.

Obviously doesn't matter for me. But curious. It's not the same fella that hosts the supporters q&a forums is it? That is not a voice to get supporters pumped up.

a niche perspective

Whereabouts? It's pretty clear on the right hand side these days, the issue is when you get interference which was shocking on Saturday. Holland and Milton were squirming in the dugout because they could hear it.

The sound has been very problematic in the Upper Magnus all season. Started off being deafeningly loud, then about right but then loud again.
Saturday was horrendous with the mic on the halfway line. An electronic swiping sound every time an announcement started and back to deafeningly loud with "interference" and loud thunderclaps. Uncomfortable to listen to.

As mentioned before Foster is a legend of the local music scene...maybe even a poor mans John Peel....but when I heard earlier this year that he'd be the stadium announcer I was mortified for the stadium goers .... especially all the new younger generations going for the first time.Soporific is a word that jumps to mind...I don't know/remember how Chandler was as I've not been to Portman road for nearly 2 decades or so but I do know Foz and it really is an own goal for the club and if he fell on his sword it would be the for the best,it really is a different World now entertainment wise with football and it needs to be someone with energy and life.
Long gone now but John Earey of Ipswich Witches fame woud be the kind of level or just above needed.
As an aside, who chooses the music played at the stadium....if that's Foster as well, expect lots of Dr Feelgood to entertain the Generation z's

Poll: Is it an issue for you that the new England manager is foreign ?
