Winter 15:48 - Nov 16 with 3307 views | clive_baker | I know some people really struggle with the cold and / or dark of winter, but I must say I love it. Took my dog for a walk at 05:30 this morning, 3 miles through some woods, wrapped up, flask of coffee in hand. I can't stand rain but it was that nice chilly & dry combo this morning, lovely start to the day.

Winter on 15:54 - Nov 16 with 2776 views | StochesStotasBlewe | I’m adjusting to it now as it still feels like the last knocking of autumn. Still cutting some clients grass and the weeds are still growing like triffids. The first week of November is the worst for me though when the clocks go back an hour. Always feel really flat then.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Winter on 16:02 - Nov 16 with 2757 views | SitfcB | Surely you can’t prefer that to a summer early morning walk? I hate the winter, go to work in the dark and usually come home in the dark, just depressing. Just in the summer feels like you’ve still got a load of time after work to do things, yet in the winter days seems over once work is done due to it being dark. [Post edited 16 Nov 2022 16:03]

I think I like summer when I'm not in it, I think about those long nights, having a beer in the garden at 9pm, the luxury of leaving the house in shorts and a t-shirt. Then it comes round and the house gets uncomfortably hot, burn your hands on the car steering wheel, feel sticky all day. Cons outweigh the pros tbh.

Can't believe you don't like rain. Rain is amazing.

What? I mean it's important of course but it's horrible to be caught in, horrible to drive in, regularly screws up plans (and cricket). Only exception is if you're in a conservatory and it's absolutely hossing down. I like that.

Winter on 17:33 - Nov 16 with 2513 views | Illinoisblue | We had 2 inches of snow yesterday and then a bit of a freeze overnight; you have to say the trees look magnificent in their winter wonderland state. Bitch to drive in but that’s what WFH is for. Autumn still the winner for me, Clive.

The weeds that couldn't grow in the drought have really been trying to make up for lost time! Can we have a frost please?

Winter on 17:49 - Nov 16 with 2472 views | jeera | At the moment it's still a novelty. If you're normally a day-time person then it probably has a touch of the magical to the experience, a bit like that feeling when we were kids and your parents would wake you in the night for that early start to go on holiday. See if you still find it fun in three months time. Not an issue for the dog though who probably couldn't give a flying feck what it's like outside and just wants its walk.

Winter on 18:04 - Nov 16 with 2408 views | EastTownBlue | I don't mind it in the lead up to Christmas as there will be the lights to brighten things up but I usually have had enough of the dark days by January/February. What we haven't had yet are the crisp frosty mornings.

Winter on 19:01 - Nov 16 with 2305 views | MalcolmMeatballHead | Totally agree. Sounds idealic! There's something about getting up early, switching on the BBC world service and just enjoying that moment of the day. It's almost as if you feel as if you're stealing it from everyone who would rather sleep. For me that's the best time of the day. I stay up all night and sleep from about 7am until 11:50ish then just listen to the radio all day. I couldn't live without my radio

Radio is a wonderful pack of cards, & BBC World Service is the ace of diamonds 👠

Wonderful! Totally agree. One minute you're listening to a documentary about a Kenyan tribe and half hour later you're listening to someone talk about wheelchair football in Mexico. No irritating adverts too. I love it! I know I sound geeky but I also love listening to Steve Allen on LBC each weekday morning from 4am til 7am. I also have the tune inn radio app on my portable telephone and often find myself listening to some obscure talk radio station in Texas lol. The only radio I listen to is talk stations, not interested in music whatsoever (obviously I like weddings and discos) so I just spend a lot of time finding new and amazing stations from all over the stratosphere [Post edited 16 Nov 2022 19:22]

Winter on 20:08 - Nov 16 with 2140 views | WeWereZombies | Sorry to be a spoilsport but I still class it as autumn in the United Kingdom at the moment, especially as I have been out in the garden in decent sunshine strimming and hedge trimming all afternoon. Frost still looks at least a week away. I always regard the solstice as the start of winter and that works for me because January and February are usually the coldest months but there is the compensation of the days starting to lengthen.
