Some would argue the Champions League is now the pinnacle of the game.

Edit: I've deleted most of my post because I now see these are people who worked on the stadium builds so not planted as such. Or at least that's what's being said further down that thread. Happy to be enlightened on the matter either way. [Post edited 19 Nov 2022 22:22]

Champions League and Copa America are probably better football from a technical and excitement point of view with all the best players but have to say the World Cup is the greatest simply by virtue of it only being every four years and you don’t see someone like for eg Ancelotti with multiple World Cups as player and manager.

Normally the bbc and itv would be saturated a few weeks out with adverts for their coverage. I don’t even know when the first game is or what channel it’s on.

If the World Cup was canceled would anyone even care? on 01:49 - Nov 20 with 1547 views | Cafe_Newman | There seems to be a similar sentiment of apathy for this WC all around the world. I suspect we'll do well in this WC. It'll be interesting to see how true our fans (and others') are to their beliefs as our national teams progress through the competition. Shame we didn't pull out of the competition in protest - shows how all this criticism of our friends in the Middle East is just virtue signalling.
If the World Cup was canceled would anyone even care? on 07:37 - Nov 20 with 1479 views | bazza | I’m as excited as ever for The World Cup, it’s here now, it’s happening, I just hope that all The nations say their piece and make their feelings known, what better stage to voice your opinion than probably the biggest sporting event in the world, the poor people of Qatar aren’t to blame, Let them enjoy their moment. And hopefully some good can come out of it all in the end, I just hope it all goes smoothly and respectfully.

I've just read that Elkjøp (large electrical stores in Norway) have withdrawn their tv advertising for the WC. They have instead donated their advertising slots to Amnesty Int. Amnesty are now the only advertisers on TV2, during WC screening. Well done Elkjøp.

There've been loads of ads for it on ITV channels - in pretty much every programme I've seen, at least twice every hour.

Ah, I rarely use catch-up as internet's not the fastest here. And I call ads "make a cuppa" or "dash to downstairs cloaks" time (main TV is in kitchen) ;) Also just now heard an ad for the WC on BBCR4 before midday news.

I normally leave the ads running then forward them once I’ve grabbed a beer and had a whizz, can’t be dealing with ads.😂

Nor that the Prem has a huge following the world over. Nor that US teams have huge UK support when the NFL etc turn up in London (or Munich) Sport is global - and Franchise Town are part of it.
