McKenna parents' hotel is higher end than I had in mind... 21:13 - Dec 6 with 8731 viewsunstableblue

I think from Keiren's recent interview that his parents built it up from a poor state

Good on them

Poll: How do you rate the new home kit out of 5?

You'd just get the same though, in that the top state schools would see house prices rocket around them, the ultra wealthy buying property and then using address to get kids in to the top state schools and making donations to the schools etc to ensure their kid gets a place

That definitely happens in London already with secondarys, but the idea is that if all state schools could be brought up to a certain level of quality, then this affect would be less pronounced. This sounds like a pipe dream but to my knowledge at least, is basically how things stand, again in London with primary schools right now: there are very few bad ones - most are good, so the choice a parent makes matters less.

I was keeping that under wraps!

They might want to completely rebrand it. Something like The Ceile De Devinish House- very close to North Leitrim

Sadly just a pipe-dream - practicalities, not to mention the £320 price tag for a single night, rule it out

I only know what Guthrum told us all. Rather than have his child be educated in the state school system which he was part of, he decided to send him private instead because it was “better”. I don’t want to traduce his fathers memory but I’m afraid this seems very hypocritical to me and what’s more, typical of the attitude of mid to late 20th century educational professionals (and many of our political/professional class these days too). Good enough for your kids not good enough for mine.

"Good enough for your kids not good enough for mine." And there we have it. You've inferred an attitude on account of a person's vocation, which is a ridiculous thing to do. A passion to teach others, turning that into a career in the state sector, this indicates a person who values education. It doesn't reveal hypocrisy. It does point to an inclination for pigeonholing people though, which is a good habit to get out of.

I haven’t “inferred” anything. Guthrum told us his dad thought the state school wasn’t good enough for his son. Plenty good enough for the rest of the oiks who went there though eh.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
