Who drops out of our last league matchday squad 11:14 - Jan 10 with 2875 viewsGlasgowBlue

To accommodate our three new signings?

For me Keogh makes way for Edmundson and Leigh drops out for Davis. We need KVY as cover for both Davis and Janoi.

So that leaves 3 from Aluko, Humphreys, Jackson and Edwards.

IMO Humphreys stays, so no Lungo on the bench. Jackson deserves to stay in the squad and we need Sonne's ability to retain the ball. Especially if we are clinging onto a narrow lead in the final quarter of the game.

Edwards is the easy option for one space but I'm struggling to see how we bring in both Hirst and Broadhead for this Saturday.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I think it is either Jackson/Edwards if I am honest as Hirst and Broadhead are upgrades on both.

McKennarotate will probably see different lineups for each game depending upon who he thinks is most suitable for the task at hand.

I imagine it'll vary game to game based on who KM thinks will be best suited to carry out the game plan. For saturday my guess would be:

Walton
Donacien Wolf Burgess Davis
Evans Morsy
Burns Chaplin Harness
Ladapo

Bench: Hladky, KVY, Edmundson, Humphreys, Aluko, Broadhead & Hirst.

That's absolutely bang on as far as I'm concerned.

Freddie keeps the starting spot after his Rotherham performance, and your 4 last listed subs all get significant game time, in an ideal world.

My only possible changes might be Leigh for KVY and/or Edwards for ???, but on balance it's KVY at the moment.

Plenty of rotation to come, particularly in some of the 'easier' games, and squad harmony maxed out too! Good job we have a wizard in charge.

So we just spent £1.5million for him to sit on the bench???? He 100% starts and so does Hirst in place of Ladapo.

Alternatively, he plays Broadhead at 9 in place of Ladapo and Hirst benches

If we get another attacking player through the door I can also see Ladapo disappearing from the matchday squad. For me Keogh/Jackson and Edwards will not be missed.

I think Jackson starts instead of Burns. When we played Plymouth at their place Jackson was causing Mumba all sorts of problems down that right side and we then looked a lot less dangerous/Mumba looked more dangerous when he came off.

Walton
JD - Woolf - Burgess
Jackson - Morsy - Evans - Davis
Chaplain - Harness
Ladapo

Hladky, KVY, Humphreys, Aluko, Broadhead, Burns, Hirst

Pricetag should not dictate if a player is in the starting lineup. It must only come down to whether he is the right man (with the right skills, physique, attributes) for that specific situation. Which is how McKenna works.

Did you actually read what I said? Fortunately KM won’t care how much we’ve spent on a player and will pick his team based on the individual strengths of each player to carry out the game plan.

FWIW I think both will eventually start more games than not but IMO Saturday they’ll be coming off the bench at the usual 60mins to give the team and fans a bit of a boost.

That's right, he just signed him for exactly those reasons, in what world does he not now play him?

Why do you think we signed Hirst and Broadhead? They provide exactly what McK is looking for and are an upgrade on what we currently have, why do you think we were so keen to get players in early in the window? Our next game could literally define our auto promotion hopes and we are going to leave our upgrades on the bench? That would be absolute insanity and just isn't going to happen IMO. Ladapo couldn't finish his dinner, cost us the game against Lincoln with 2 missed sitters and is identified as the weak link of our forwards, no chance on earth he starts for me, but we'll find out soon I guess.

A match where he thinks someone else's skills might suit better, or where he wants to bring him off the bench later in a game. Say he wanted a Harness - Ladapo - Chaplin combo, for example (which has been extremely successful for us this season).

I think all the attacking players are going to find themselves in and out of the starting lineup and, of necessity, sometimes not even on the bench. That includes the new guys. They are options, not compulsories.

I don't see things as a "first team" and "backups", but as an attacking sub-squad, with different members all equally playing a part.

Ladapo can't finish for toffee and isn't even getting assists, he literally just holds the ball up and we need more from a 9, he's been a weakness all season and that's been recognised by the manager, hence our January recruitment. I literally have no idea why people think he keeps his place in the side. I get what you're saying about skills, but we have directly recruited someone who is viewed as better at 9 than Ladapo, to replace Ladapo, a bloke t he manager has been chasing since he came to the club, but now he's got him, he's going to keep playing Ladapo? Not a chance.

Hirst has played a total of 58 minutes since mid October, I’d be very surprised if he were to suddenly start.

Broadhead for me is the more likely to start but I still think KM will be more patient. Harness has been very good in the bigger games where there’s more space to exploit and has built a good understanding with Davis down that left hand side.

Again though, it’ll all come down to who KM thinks will attack Plymouths weaknesses best. Our tactics are much more methodical than just chucking someone in because they’re new and we’ve spent a bit of money on them.

Be very very surprised if neither new boy are left out of the 11. Expect Broad to start probably in Harness’ position with Hirst in for Fred after 60.

I think he'll probably play both - one starting, the other off the bench, at least sometimes. Also depends how well and how quickly Hirst settles in. By Saturday, for example, he'll have had less than a week training with the team.

7 goals in 16 starts and 9 sub appearances (plus another four goals in cup games) is not a bad return from someone who 'can't finish'.

You can’t drop Keogh. That’d leave us even more thin on the ground for defensive cover. We don’t have the best defenders as it is ( in my humble opinion)

Subject to what goes on in training, I'm inclined to think Broadhead will play in place of Harness (he's up to speed) but Hirst will be benched (as he hasn't had much game time).

We recruit based on “better than what we have” people with better metrics and abilities, we are not signing these guys to warm the bench and given that this is the most important game of our season to date, I would be astonished if they were both on the bench and would consider it a huge mistake on the managers part.

Broadhead starts 100% for me and I think McK will look for any and every reason to start Hirst up front, but all depends on how he trains and how fit he looks, if he’s not struggling, he starts too IMO.

The two new guys are signed because they are an upgrade on what we have so much as I love watching Edwards play, and respect the improvement Jackson has made and what he brings to the squad/team they are the ones to make way.
