Do we think Hirst and Broadhead will start on Saturday? 17:58 - Jan 10 with 6260 views | Stewart27 | Know it’s not always the preferred thing to do with players at new clubs. But now they’re here and seemingly ready to step in, do we think KM will do it? There’s also the fact that Freddie had a good game Saturday.

Do we think Hirst and Broadhead will start on Saturday? on 19:37 - Jan 10 by Guthrum | IMO Broadhead very likely (inside forward), Hirst probably off the bench later. |
Love it, thank you Guthers, welcome back "inside forward" - don't think I've heard that phrase for about 30 years! I think there'll be plenty of changes (apart from any enforced by injury) esp double subs upfront if it's a tight game - a policy of discombobulating the opposition just as they think they've got us worked out; and then again if necessary.

Do we think Hirst and Broadhead will start on Saturday? on 21:46 - Jan 10 by Dubtractor | Harness was probably our best player against Oxford! Poor in a few recent away games though. |
I thought Davis was much better, made it easy for Harness with all the runs in behind he was making. In general Harness control and passing hasn't been the best lately, I think he's a bit streaky. Could easily pop up and playing brilliantly on Saturday, I just think that Broadhead might be a cut above. Time will tell. SB

As I said the other day, that old descriptor makes more sense to me than having two "number tens" supporting the striker. Edit: When I was at school, we still played a 2-3-5 formation, which was archaic even then. [Post edited 10 Jan 2023 22:51]

Some foreign terms for non-centre forwards are quite fun. Trequartista (Italy) meaning "three-quarter-ist" (ie. someone who operates in the third quarter of the pitch between midfield and attack). Enganche (Argentina) meaning "hook" (ie. someone who acts as a hook, connecting midfield and attack). Raumdeuter (Germany) meaning "space interpreter" (ie. someone who roams around seeking spaces to exploit)

Takes a little bit of time to get an understanding of how we operate and the duties of each role. Davis looked like a lost sheep in his first game v Bolton, look at him now.

Do we think Hirst and Broadhead will start on Saturday? on 20:18 - Jan 10 by Hipsterectomy | Davis started a few days after signing for us for Leeds after pre-season in Australia, didn't he? |
Yeah, and in hindsight, shouldn't have. I think he admitted later he was still not right after the flight form Aus, and he conceded the penalty looking clumsy. I would argue that we would have been better served that day, with Greg Leigh starting, and Davis maybe coming off the bench, or just getting an extra few days to bed in.

He did - and it was probably his worst performance for us to date. I remember being quite unimpressed after the game, but his following performances were excellent. It pretty much pointed to the decision to play him being a bad one. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Do we think Hirst and Broadhead will start on Saturday? on 11:08 - Jan 11 with 725 views | Garv | I think KM is quite big on vibes and getting players up to speed straight away. He'll know starting one or both of them will create an atmosphere in the ground. As someone else pointed out he started Davis when he probably shouldn't have, or at least didn't need to. Now we can make 5 subs the players not starting can still be confident of getting a good number of minutes. Wouldn't surprise me if one or both start, although I also get the feeling Ladapo will be well up for this one going up against another old team.

Guess it depends on how they do this week in training, and whether anyone has picked up a knock. Too big a game to be tinkering too much, imo.
