Do you think Burns has had unfair criticism this season? on 20:26 - Mar 3 by Stewart27
You’re showing yourself up to be foolish again.
In defence of Frimmers, Wes’ contribution in terms of goals since October is poor. It’s the sort of return you’d expect from a CB.
To counter Frimmers, he does a lot more that doesn’t go recognised (by Frimmers anyway!). His defending from the front is excellent, working his socks off which often results in turnovers leading to our attacks. And he ties up 2 defenders normally.

I don’t really care what you think. Your scattergun approach sometimes works (obviously). His goal against Plymouth may have felt like that from your armchair but it was much better than that in real life. And also watching it back from my armchair it was decent too.

Real life or video. He hit it like 99% of his shots. Hard as possible with his laces at goal. Of course when it goes in it looks amazing, it's got pace and it's gone in.
He had similar chance in a game that followed. He hit it the same way. Same distance it went over. Then did the same in a game after that.

I applaud his efforts on that side of things. And I mentioned it recently against Bristol how I felt sorry for him as he was doing a great Job but being ignored.
However in his position his lack of composure has been a big reason for our lack of wins imo. Many chances to score but hitting hard and hoping rather than calmly slotting home or even playing in team mates across the goal. And his crossing choices are bizarre.
I said right at the start of the season that I feared this season would be a tough one for Wes Burns, because he’d essentially had no summer break due to his Wales World Cup squad involvement. And secondly because he was always going to be a “ marked man” this season due his phenomenal previous season- he always has at least 2 men on him. So with his undoubted leg weary season this season snd being a marked man he was IMHO always going to find it tough. I personally would give him a break for 2-3 games.

So take Burns out of the equation and the reason we aren't top 2 is?

Wes is clearly not having the same impact as last season. It is the difficult second season.
He is getting fewer opportunities to impact the game as teams are setting up to not allow him to go 1:1 with defenders. Clubs have realised how much threat he carries, so he is being given less space to exploit.
We are also a much better balanced team this season and more of a threat down the left side. No surprise that Leif having so many assists means there are less balls coming though to Wes.
That said, Wes does look less adventurous than last season, so potentially a confidence thing.
The key question. If he was available for loan, how many L1 teams would want to sign him? Most, I suspect.

Burns hasn't been criticized by anyone important at the club.. Mostly pod casters and forum posters trying to start a "thing", or pad out their content..
He's put in a few more 6 out of 10's this season. Instead of the constant 8's and 9's we all enjoyed last season. But his numbers aren't bad. Stupid to judge him on goals scored, imo, when, (A) he's not a striker and (B) the team aren't struggling and haven't struggled for goals all season...Incidentally, I think he's still 3rd, behind Chappers and Ladapo for goals. Which is hardly a sh1t return.. I'm picking him in my first 11 every week. And yes, he has frustrated me in moments this season, but no more than a number of other players, at times. But he's head and shoulders above our next in line for his position. And the only "natural" we have for that position.. And he's shown he can come good in some really big moments when he's needed to. Other names that get mentioned for his role? KJ? Edwards?...They are back up for Burns, they ain't Burns. And neither of those is going to oust Burns from his position in the team. Even if either is called upon to start a match in the up coming fixtures...In the same way that Hladky isn't ousting Walton..Or Leigh isn't ousting Davis..

I'll wager the Burton coaching staff have been working on how to keep Wes quiet all week. No doubt they will double or treble up on him from the first minute to nullify the threat. Lovely to have players that frighten the opposition like Wes.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Hence wack a ball.
So sometimes he scores and sometimes he misses? Hello league one wing back.
Jesus man he’s scored 20 goals and assisted what? 10 or so in under 2 seasons with us.
You’ll be more unbearable than you are now if we ever go up.

2 league goals since october.
Fluffs 9/10 crosses
No
Not sure it achieves anything other than undermining the confedence of one of our players which is the opposite of what they wish to achieve. At the end of the day there's only one person's opinion that counts and he hopefully knows how to get the best of his players. Being abusive is more a reflection of the posters you can only wonder what they are like to think this is acceptible behavior.

I think the points in your final paragraph are linked. Burns is a confidence player - I know most players are to a certain degree, but seems to affect Burns more than most. Watch him when he makes a wrong decision. Anguished face, shoulders slumped and he seems to go into his shell for a bit. He then seems to hesitate before taking on his man again, or snaps at a shot. Contrast if/when he does beat his man and puts in a good cross, his swagger immediately returns. What he needs is two or three games where he mostly makes the right decisions and hopefully he'll be much closer to the match winner that we had last season.
All very good, and probably valid points.
But he’s playing in League 1, if he can’t put a run of good games together in this league, when we are near the top, and dominating games weekly, when can he do it?

Who were the last team to put 2 men on him?
Because honestly, that’s a myth (I used it too) until I watched him a few games, in isolation, he hasn’t got two men on him

I don't know if there's been abusive posts elsewhere. I agree they aren't welcome.
But discussing and being critical of a players performance is part of football.

Oh look another poster whose chasing uppies bless.
I've barely been on until yesterday evening
But I've given you the uppy you desire.
See this is your problem. You do and say things and then a few weeks later say you don't do that pointing to recent history.
The fact you haven't posted much this week is irrelevant. You can't rewrite the huge bulk of previous evidence where you were posting 100 times a day.
You do the same with football, you make outlandish statements and then a few weeks later say something completely the opposite and then get defensive when people point out what you've said previously.
It's a situation entirely of your own making.
