I am not a… 09:08 - Apr 19 with 2696 views | USA | Tw*t, A**hole nor numbskull for singing we are top of the league. I’m gobsmacked by the attitude that we are somehow awful fans for enjoying the football and the moment. If we‘re top at that time then let’s celebrate the fact. I really can assure you singing that song has ZERO impact on what Plymouth and their opponents do. It’s not a cocky attitude in the slightest. Oddly, we can sing “We’re on our way, we’re on our way” since Feb and no one bats an eyelid. Surely that’s more pretentious than singing about being top???

I can't risk not eating wine gums at half time. I can't risk not eating a hotdog from the stand outside the NS before the game. Eurgh... I'm not superstitious....am I? Eugh, s**t, I am aren't I?! ffs. Sorry. |
I can't have any volume at 13, especially the car radio when driving. Tvat innit. I also clap and sing a song when I see magpies. Especially when driving. Making me almost crash.

Of course it’s fine to sing that or anything else that’s acceptable within the law/boundaries of good taste. As if what was sung would actually impact the Plymouth game! That’s obviously superstitious nonsense. It’s also ok to joke that it does though, so maybe you’ve taken offence where none is really intended? [Post edited 19 Apr 2023 13:41]

My assumption would be that it's either tongue in cheek, or just a little frustration that Plymouth scored and looking for a completely irrational thing to point at. I would be surprised if anyone genuinely thinks the fact someone shouted that we're top of the league resulted in Plymouth scoring a goal 200 miles away.

Chaos theory and the premature song theory effect. A chant of 'toppa the league' in Ipswich can cause a winning goal in Plymouth.

Maybe we should try chanting 'we're not top of the league', presumably Plymouth would concede?
