Off-topic I know - when ipswich won the first division what colour was the away kit - and third kit (if there was one)?
My fav home shirt is the 72/73 plain blue one. Think it was the winter kit.
My fav away kit is the 81/82 orange third kit.

There's this but it only lists or recalls away shirts from 63/64.

I sort have guessed that our away kit would have been white - but as Blackburn were in Div 1 when we won it, surly we would have had a third kit as well? But can’t find it referenced anywhere.
Think that red kit was a training top but could well be wrong. Saying that, something in the back of my head is recalling that we did have a third kit produced but never wore it. May well have been something to do with playing in the FA Cup (but didn’t need it as the team we could have played were knocked out). | | | |

I’m not sure how accurate that link is - especially re the sponsors as I don’t think Radio Orwell sponsored the shirts until 1985 - but my brain is a bit wiffy these days.
Also, up until mid 70’s I was under the assumption that no thought went into an away kit as such and you just selected a “Stock” kit.
So as a blue team we selected yellow which was identical to the likes of Everton etc.
The first real away kit I can remember was Man U when they replicated their new snazzy red home kit with white stripes into a white away kit with black stripes. |  |

Yep. The yellow shirt were wore in the early 70's was worn by Everton, Chelsea and Carlisle. Literally, the only difference being the badge which was stitched on.
Not a great deal of thought really ever went into away kits until the last quarter of a century. Just used to be serve as a function of not having a colour clash.
PS. I think you're right about the Orwell kit. We were still sponsored by Pioneer the first year of the 'French 84' kit. [Post edited 4 Jun 2023 12:40]

I don’t think the link in my OP is too bad. The colours on some aren’t quite right and you may be right regarding sponsors, but with my sad little brain who knows. They’re close enough to remind me of what was good and bad to me.
The home kit I truly loathed was the 2005-2007 one with the white mess down one side. What was that all about? It was like a small child won a competition. The away 1995-1996 green and brown effort wasn’t good either. Looked worse ‘on the pitch’ too. A real ‘why???’.
The mid 80s let’s copy the France national team with a red band across the chest was rubbish too. As was the team. We play in blue and white!
As for stock kits, they were really. I think Leeds broke the mould with this Admiral kits with all sorts going on including funny little tags for the socks. The classic 1978 away kit certainly wasn’t ‘stock’ in that it mirrored the home kit in style. | | | |

When we switched from Umbro to Core/Punch there were delays in getting the new kits. Core provided a generic home and away for the pre season tour. Hence the red kit with no sponsor and this one from my collection -
