Fascinating stuff for the treatment of anxiety, depression, alcoholism, PTSD and related mental health issues, with the UK's own Dr Robin Carhart-Harris leading the research (see his documentary on Amazon, plus youtube interviews such as Joe Rogan).
Anyone interested in this sort of stuff or even tried it? The active ingredient in magic mushrooms, it unfortunately got lumped in with everything else in the 'war on drugs', so research has been a lot slower than it could have been. But it's looking very encouraging, and could be prescribed as a medicine in the medium-long future.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I am only speaking recrestionally rather than in terms of microdosing, but you could also plan a trip to Amsterdam and visit one of the smart shops. They are pretty responsible and will ask questions to gauge your experience before making a reccomendation. They refused to sell to some friends of mine strong ones because they were honest that they had never dabbled before. They made a strong appeal to the rest of us not to share stronger ones with them. Truffles rather than mushrooms but to all intents and purposes, the same thing.
If you try a light, entry level one with someone you trust, you will feel giggly and receptive, possibly noticing that colours seem more vivid and somewhat fluid. It's possible that you may also feel that some things slightly change in size and that sensory experiences feel somewhat stronger.
It's generally quite mild, but if for whatever reason you feel uncomfortable or worried, drinking a sugary drink can help to nullify the effects. Nothing to worry about as long as you are with someone you trust :)
Tried them once many years ago in Budapest and it was pretty much exactly as you describe.
I must have a deep hidden love for S Club 7 as that's all I could hear that night.

It's a lot milder then LSD for example, unless you take a enormous amount. I've never tried the micro dossing thing but if yer nervous about taking um then that would definitely be the way to go. May be so mild though, you barely notice it. Perhaps just up the dose little by little til you get to a level that suits. Would also depend on the type of mushrooms and where you source them.
Or just do what I did- eat your own and then after feeling no real effects (little did I know it just hadn’t kicked in yet) proceed to eat everyone else’s and have a truly magnificent and whacky trip. How I made it through the airport and flight home I do not know.

Mushrooms are wonderful. Personally, I think everyone should try them once in their lives.
I view them as something "sacramental", i.e. you don't take them for "recreation" (although you can), you take them to get in touch with yourself, and if that sounds like hippy nonsense, so be it. Amsterdam ain't the place to be taking them, you can find, I believe, plenty of suppliers on Insta or similar, no need for the dark web.
One of the worst things New Labour did was make them illegal.
The fact that they promote mental well-being does not surprise me. My life changed when I took them, not drastically, but the memory lingers.
The best analogy I can make is it is like looking a life on an old CRT monitor, then seeing things in 4K UHD on an OLED screen.
For the avoidance of doubt, I'm a grandfather in my mid-50s with a proper job and a piece of paper somewhere to say I'm normal*
The fact that cannabis and mushrooms are illegal is scandalous.
*that bit might be made up.

Agree with a lot of what you said, it can be a very introspective experience. I will say that I wouldn't reccomend wondering around Amsterdam on them, but relaxing in a sunny Vondelpark by the lake is not to be sniffed at!

So the answer to those sort of problems isn't to just pull yourself together then?
Your understanding of mental health problems, particularly depression, is non-existent. The clear implication of views like yours is that people with depression are making an active choice to be depressed and, therefore, can choose to stop being depressed - or in your words they can 'pull themselves together' or 'snap out of it'. If only.
Yeah the research is really promising (absolutely not a panacea so I'm.hoping people don't make too many wild claims as a backlash will probably come soon). The US are ahead of us on psychedelic therapy, but there are legal ways to access it here and in Europe. I've seen the use of various psychedelic compounds transform people's lives when other treatments have failed.

He's very obviously joking, as in that's the view of boorish morons - he's clearly playing that role. And I'm defending him as someone who's suffered!

Is there anything in what you've read that suggests it might be helpful for people with schizophrenia?
It's not one of the disorders with which psychedelics have been widely trialled (and is actually an exclusion criteria for some trials and treatments, like ketamine assisted psychotherapy, just because of a potential for an increase in psychotic symptoms). But there's academic speculation it could be helpful under very controlled conditions but I wouldn't be self-medicating if I had that diagnosis).
