25 man squad 07:45 - Jun 15 with 4173 views | GlasgowBlue | My thoughts on how our 25 man squad could look by the start of the season. Goal Keepers Walton Hladky Right Backs Clarke Donacien Left Backs Davis Leigh Central Defenders Woolfenden Burges Edmundson* Cashin Central Midfield Morsy Luongo Taylor Ball Camara Wide Right Burns Rak-Sakyi Wide Left Broadhead Edwards No 10’s Chaplin Harness Aluko Forwards Ladapo Hirst Simms Penney - Release/ Sell Baggot - Loan Ndaba - Loan Harper - Release/ Sell Evans - Release/ Sell Humphreys- Loan El Miz - Loan/ Sell Jackson - Sell *I still think the club may have concerns over Edmundson’s injury record over the past two season which could see him sold as part of a deal to bring in another central defender. Possibly going back to Derby, so we’d be looking at bringing in two central defenders. Would everybody be happy if the above was our 25 for the season I’ve probably left someone out which will no doubt be corrected. [Post edited 15 Jun 2023 7:52]

25 man squad on 08:44 - Jun 15 by BlueBoots | Wouldn't be too unhappy if that's how our squad looked, but taking a few of your points: a) Happy with Edmundson as the 4th CB - think he suffered last season lining up alongside Woolfenden, as he wasn't fully fit, playing on the left, and they're a similar type of player. b) Would want someone with good experience at this level for the "3rd" CB; as someone else mentioned, Sonny Bradley would be my choice (being a leftie gives us balance there too) c) Centre Mids; Morsy and Luongo no questions, Ball for me is the best option we currently have if we need someone to sit in front of the defence (probably more necessary this season), plus he's an option as an emergency CB. I think Camara has missed too much football to automatically get a place in the squad - think he could do with a half season loan to get up to speed, as can't see him getting enough regular football with us to do that. El Miz has been playing a similar role to Morsy and Luongo at Orient (No.4 who breaks forward to join attacks), so I hope in pre-season we take a good look at how far he has developed. Again, I think we'll look to sign a player in this area with either Championship experience (or maybe even convincing someone to drop from the Prem), so the 5th spot would be a choice between El Miz and Evans. d) Would be very happy with Rak-Sakyi - like Edwards, can play as a No.10 as well as out wide if necessary. e) Agree that we need to sign 2 No.9's to join Ladapo; can't risk just one on the pitch and one on the bench for a whole season. |
Very similar to my thoughts. Only difference is in e) one of the 9's would be the versatile 9/10 type e.g. TJJ. Only other possible change would be keeping Camara here as a different type of CM, or possibly Humphreys (that depends right now on what summer progress both of them make, injury-wise for Camara, strength-wise for Humpy). Leaving a CM pool of Morsy, Luongo, Ball, (Camara or Humphreys) plus 1. That Plus 1 being either a big signing or El Miz, if KMcK thinks his progression continues well? Evans, as others have said, I have too many injury doubts about.

Back at Portsmouth in a player-plus-cash swap deal for Colby Bishop, hopefully. If we are going for two Centre Forwards then I would prefer one of Hirst and Simms with a more experienced player like Bishop. Similarly, I think a more experienced Centre Back will be a priority for McKenna.

Happy with your thinking too - I'd love TJJ back as a permanent signing; I think he'd cope with stepping up a division, and has scope to be even better than that. If one of those signings is with an eye on the future, I think one of the No.9's really has to have the ability to rip up the division. As for loaning out the CM's, I suppose the simplest solution would be to loan out Camara for half a season to get him fit and keep Humphreys (as he doesn't take up a space in the 25 man squad), and then bring Camara back when he's up to speed and then loan out Humphreys to get a run of games too.

I reckon he might well go on a permanent basis this summer, can't see a route to the first team for him here now at 23, particularly with Baggott younger than him and pushing for the same slot.

Yeah, I'd assume his time has come. Only thing that gives me pause is the 2 years on his contract - not impossible we decide that his value peaks after a good season on loan.

Perhaps, and difficult to think much of a fee could be achieved this summer. Loan and then a sale in a year's time might be the best option.
25 man squad on 18:50 - Jun 15 with 635 views | BigCommon | Can see us signing an upgrade on Harness for a 10 slot. Possibly someone versatile that can cover 9 and 10 as per TJJ, but not necessarily TJJ.. Plus there's the small issue of wether or not Aluko signs another season. Which is, as yet, unconfirmed. Not that he'd play every game. But if he doesn't sign, then we are light in the AM area, for cover/ rotation. Have a feeling if Cashin left Derby, it would be for a Prem stable. So might turn up in The Championship on loan. Or loaned back to Derby in L1 as part of any deal.
