Would be a decent summer for me.
Trying not to get carried away as there is of course more competition for players at this level and it does seem we are competing with a few for some of the players.

I think the 'excellent' would be persuading a player with some Prem experience but still lots of growth potential to drop down to us on a permanent in the same way we got Morsy/Chappers/Walton to drop down when we were in League One.
Many of the targets linked so far (with the exception of Armstrong) have 'only' been those with proven Championship experience or Prem youngesters who have had some loans. These players may well have a higher ceiling and have the ability to play in the Prem but to get someone in who has shown they can operate a level above would be 'excellent' for me. | |

Didn't Simms get recalled by Everton and play in 11 PL games in the second half of the season?
Going to be a hard sell to get a proven PL player to play at this level I think.

Yeah I think that's a fair one on Simms although for his 12 Prem appearances he has 289 minutes and only 3 starts. If we were to bring in 4/5 'Simms' it would be an excellent window.
I agree it's going to be difficult to bring in someone with significantly more Prem experience but we did manage it with several players in League One and the Armstrong link is the sort of player that if we were to pick up a few like that would make it an 'excellent' window. The biggest issue I suspect will be the wage differential but we might be able to pick up either a free agent or someone who has dropped out of the pecking order and is looking to be a regular starter to reboot their career. | |

Yes but if you look at the context of the post it's clear that someone like Simms with experience is about the best we can hope for.
The second paragraph says it's going to be hard to get someone with proven PL quality hence I've not said that 11 games in proven PL player in any way.

My concern is Simms could be this summer's Hirst. I hope we don't end up scrabbling for a forward like last August, where we brought in Ahadme with a degree of desperation.
Is Knight required? We have Morsy, Luongo, Evans, Ball, Camara, El Mizouni and Humphreys vying for those midfield places. I suppose El Mizouni and Humphreys could be sent out on loan whilst Evans and/or Ball are moved on. | |
