Glasto thread 00:02 - Jun 24 with 9643 views | Whos_blue | Don't know if it's everyone's up of tea, but thought it would be good to have a thread of highlights, things to catch up on/look forward to. I'll be going back to watch some more of the Young Fathers. Looked and sounded amazing. Looking forward to seeing them at Latitude. Watching the Arctic Monkeys. They're one of those bands who passed me by a bit. A decent set, but maybe a little pedestrian and samey for me.

No, strange comment. Is this some sort of joke about me being old that's going over my head?

I enjoyed the start of that, but then it became obvious that it was a pre recorded set (as a DJ you can tell these things) and that sucked the joy out of it for me. As a DJ, if you can't even play the tunes, especially using modern mixing software (Serato/Rekordbox), then what is the point? Press play at the start, then pretend to knob twiddle?!

He's got absolutely no need to do that. I'm going to be snobby now but I preferred Jon Carter as a DJ and Monkey Mafia.

The fact there are so many “celebrities “ who dj now tells you all you need to know (I know Norman Cook is an established dj. Pre recorded sets or heavy use of the Sync button with minimal use of the headphones for cueing and a tendency to touch a we knob at every opportunity along with launching every possible effect available has spoilt it for the proper djs out there. Fair enough. Not being in the know I wouldn't have noticed. Is air knob twiddling akin to air guitar? Still good fun though!

Glasto thread on 09:29 - Jun 24 by The_Flashing_Smile | Whatever your age you gotta love lyrics like, "You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham" and "His bird said it's amazing though so all that's left, is the proof that love's not only blind, but deaf"?? [Post edited 24 Jun 2023 9:37]

The first albums are brilliant. I still liked Tranquility Base and the lyricism in it is still excellent as per, but Turner doesn't have the voice to pull off that genre. The Car leant even more heavily into it and isn't as strong lyrically, probably the only album of theirs I don't care for. I thought the live set was disappointing, but more for the slowed speed of the songs than the genre mixes.

Definitely not my genre of music but she's undoubtedly excellent at what she does. Songs like Juice and To Be Loved are very very good pop songs.
