What are we this morning 33-3? Shocker.
2nd test Day three. on 12:07 - Jun 30 with 1002 views | Zx1988 | How utterly depressing. With the exception of the Stokes wicket we've not asked any questions of the Aussies whatsoever. They just know that if they bowl at us for long enough, we'll make ten avoidable errors and gift them the lead.

2nd test Day three. on 12:14 - Jun 30 with 953 views | Chrisd | FFS why can’t our batsmen adjust? Bazball is all well and good, but our batsmen play one way and that’s it. It’s so frustrating to watch. We could end up 60-70 runs behind, where if we batted with our heads we could be only 3 or 4 wickets down.

47/5 this morning. And 138 for the last 8 wickets. [Post edited 30 Jun 2023 12:26]

Bairstow really has to be more circumspect as the last senior batsman too. Unless Anderson and Tongue do something special we're 90-odd behind in a match where we should, at absolute worst, be close to parity. The players look like they've bought too much Ashes hype here. Australia are a better side but they aren't that much better than England.

I think today is more annoying than yesterday. Given how quickly we lost our heads and foothold in the match it was awful but somewhat more forgivable. Having gone away with the opportunity to reset, yet come back today and gifted them the wickets we have is completely unacceptable. Disgraceful. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

that was dreadful today, so, so poor. All for attacking cricket but Brook's shot today was dreadful just giving our wickets away.

Brook never fancied it. Bumbled his way to 50 but never fancied the fight. It annoys me more that the Aussies are probably on a par with us imo. and we've made them look world class. 250 by lunch tomorrow and they'll declare. Might make day 5...

That was an utter shambles. I know some are backing this approach about going for their shots, but be more measured in your play. Bazball is exciting when it comes off, but like today it is shambolic and brainless.

Totally disagree, other than Root, yes they are far better than England. Broad and Anderson not really effective anymore which is not surprising considering their age, a wicket keeper that is not a wicket keeper, no spinner and flaky batsmen. They believe their hype too much. Australia have been below par in two games yet likely to be 2-0 up in england England have been dire in general. Really poor

2nd test Day three. on 13:07 - Jun 30 with 789 views | gainsboroughblue | Why is there this stubborn, inflexible way of playing coming from all of a sudden? Saving test cricket? Absolute balls. There is never a shortage of people watching test cricket in this country and we have probably the most knowledgeable fans in the sport who appreciate the longer form of the game for what it is. It's our bowlers I feel sorry for. How are we going to maximise their effectiveness and longevity with them back on the field bowling every 4-6 hours.

Not convinced by this - if we'd not declared in the first innings of the 1st test, the first test probably would have ended up drawn (albeit a lot of other what-ifs) and in this test if we'd batted with a bit more brains against the short-ball we'd have easily got to parity - we'd get humped playing in Australia like this but in home conditions the teams aren't that far apart.

Agreed. I was at the first day of the Ashes. The buzz around Edgbaston was electric, and whilst it was enjoyable day there was still a concern from a lot of people saying diving into an Ashes playing like this and declaring at such an odd time. While we're not all great cricket players, there are a lot of fans who have watched plenty of cricket and understand the game. It needed a bit of a revamp, but to die on your sword saying that this is the only way to keep people interested is right from the ECB's spin of The Hundred. It was never needed to this degree and it's made a lot of people, especially Stokes and McCullem look pretty stupid...

Very good post. They also got carried away by the results making it think they’d had found some magical method for test cricket. However the opposition wasn’t what it looked. A much weaker NZ team that had reached the previous test championship final and a Pakistan missing some key players. Biz all has a place and it has brought a breath of fresh air BUT the jet to Hope thing is ‘adaptability’. You can’t play it 100% of the time and that is why has made stoked and mcullum look incredibly foolish in this game.
