Rachel Reeves thinks it “counterproductive and rude”… 20:37 - Jul 9 with 2696 viewsthebooks

…to protest at George Osborne’s wedding by sprinkling the happy couple with orange confetti.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/09/just-stop-oil-applauds-osbor

Possibly not as counterproductive as pulling the plug on a planned £28bn investment in green industry and jobs, but hey ho.

Surprised Gideon made it.

You don't sound too bright.

Why would they lay themselves open to claims of lying, were it to come out it was them ?

Would anyone think better or worse of them if they stated it was them ?

Where is the benefit to them of lying ?

Hmmm. Thank-you for your psychiatric assessment (no doubt you have some credentials to back your opinion up).

Where you got the rest of the subjects against which you railed, I have no idea.

Are you responding to the wrong post? Or are you just hard of thinking?

Given the letter circulating before his wedding, he’s probably extremely relieved to have made it down the aisle, confetti or not.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Given that they’re always 100% transparent when they protest, it’d be out of character and a surprise for them to lie over this.

It’s nuts anyway. How bizarre that ‘woman throws confetti at wedding’ makes the national press.

I would stop digging if I were you. Basic logic is not 'psychiatric assessment'.

'the rest of the subjects' ?

What be they ?

Mate, you're making Harry look clever. I'd stop.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Also, Reeves accusing someone else of being pathetic and tedious!!? 😂

Another detail: “Osborne’s wedding, his second, was attended by politicians including Michael Gove, David Cameron, Matt Hancock, Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper as well as journalists including Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Nick Robinson.”

Really is just one cosy family, isn’t it?

Bloke who was in a Conservative government and now works in the media has wedding where he invites ex colleagues from that government and current colleagues from his media job. Scandalous.

Of course. I was more struck how the politics of an austerity chancellor, leading members of the “opposition” and our fearless and independent press corps could be covered by a napkin.

The status quo ain’t going nowhere.

Mention of Jon Sopel, Emily Maitlis and Nick Robinson being there brings to mind the Andrew Marr interview with Noam Chomsky where Chomsky called into question the independence of journalists, calling in aid something Orwell had written. The passage concluded thus, but the whole passage is worth watching on YouTube.

Marr: "How can you know that I’m self-censoring? How can you know that journalists are?”

Chomsky: “I’m not saying you're self censoring. I’m sure you believe everything you’re saying. But what I’m saying is that if you believed something different, you wouldn’t be sitting where you’re sitting.”

Is this really surprising? Alistair Campbell has a point re Brexit therefore all's forgiven. It's par for the course. I hate it when people say politicians are all the same, they're not. But right now there's barely a fag paper between the two main parties, at a time when we need an alternative more than ever.
