I don't see a gain in doing it slightly earlier than it would have been, no.

I have already. You're clearly reading my posts on this thread. So the answer is there for you already. I don't need to repeat myself just for you sb.

Maybe for half a day until/unless it's scuppered by being made public, with another club then having come in to offer ££ more. Then it's a multiple loss of readers, goodwill, and trust from the Club, with no more good info forthcoming on anything.

Heyyyy you can’t go round deleting stuff like that, Mr Ham. on 10:28 - Jul 12 by FrimleyBlue | Similar to the other posters I'm surprised you don't see the benefit of being able to start news stories leading up to an announcement. Anyways. You're singling out that it's specific to secret deals. It's not. My view which I shared early on in this thread is that I don't agree with any legit local journos being controlled in anyway. It sets a precedent for the future. It's not something I will change my mind on. You're absolutely right to feel different that's fine. |
I'm not singling out that it's specific to secret deals, where the F have you got that from? I've literally said the opposite. You're avoiding my (and others) questions. 1. How would it increase their turnovers printing it today rather than, say, tomorrow? 2. WHY do you think clubs want deals kept secret until they're finalised? You clearly don't think it's for a good reason, so what's the bad reason in your head? What is it you think is dodgy that Ashton is up to?

You either don't understand what you're posting or you're being disingenuous again. Please explain exactly that TWTD gains from posting the story early. You might also want to consider what it loses by doing so. SB

They’re not being controlled it’s just a gentlemen’s agreement, in turn they get sent the info officially a few mins before the club release it, thus being quicker than anyone else. It can happen when press reports alert other clubs or whatever, it’s understandable. It’s fine for us to speculate or whatever and that’s enough, once it’s official then we can read the stories. Lining up the stories or posting them? Of course, all news outlets line up stories even ones not ITK. You mean posting them publicly presumably. Come on then, you tell me what the gain is.

God. I've answered my thoughts on the gains already. You and SB just ignoring them. I know why they do. I don't agree with journo control. It's just my belief. Regarding your first point. My apologies I've not explained that sentence well. I meant my thoughts on control Wasn't just based around transfer news. I feel personally control of local journos Is wrong as it sets a precedent for the future. As an example. If things aren't going well.. what will the club allow to be printed about it. Etc. It's just a belief I have personally. You honestly don't have to understand it. Agree with it etc. This is just my way of showing support to the likes of twtd and Eadt that I believe they should be able to do what they like.

How would it be a net positive for TWTD? You said something about their (financial) gain? I hear the point that yours is a general argument/opinion but no one is controlling anyone. As Sitters said, TWTD decides to play ball to have good access and relationships. That's how it works, always has and always will, not just in sport but news across the board. This "dangerous precedent" and "slippery slope" and "controlling the media" stuff belongs in a different paradigm. But hey, variety is the spice of life! Er, COYFB

You haven't explained the gains. You've said they get to print 4/5 stories, but why can't they do that anyway, when the deal's done? Where is the gain by going early on it? There's also a potential massive loss/egg on face if it falls through. On your second point, we're not talking about anything that happens in the club, we're talking specifically about transfers. Phil/the EADT print what they like (if it's true, or even just opinion) when things go badly. In fact the EADT ran a Magilton Out campaign, off the top of my head. There's no evidence they're gagged for nefarious reasons, like you're suggesting.

Do you want to maximise the chances of success for Town or not? Who does it hurt by keeping things quiet? Would you rather be told players are here a day or two earlier and risk the deals falling through? There is nothing at all to suggest the current regime would ever look to restrict the media. They have probably asked, not demanded, that local media just don't report it. You've been here long enough to recognise what is happening. The fact Phil hasn't said a word is really all you need to know.

The old maxim about never arguing with people whose brains aren't engaging, for whatever reason, springs to mind.
