He does occasionally get fired up with refereeing decisions in game But overall he’s just very balanced and calm… which for a manager is a great trait I think we’re all getting carried away… and despite the wobble around Bristol Rovers away… I don’t he’s truly faced a crisis yet… let’s see how we fare against Sunderland, Leicester, Leeds, Stoke et al But yeah I cringe thinking back to the post match interviews from some of our recent managers… you just got nothing from them apart from platitudes and silly emotion I always compared Mick with Colin (Warnock) - you’d think they’d be similar in post match interview… but Warnock actually often gave real insights to a game and system and player performance (as well as losing his rag completely) Again just enjoy every minute of McKennas time here

He absolutely is going to be a 'top, top manager' - one of the elite. It is a privilege and a joy to have him with us.

Quite right. I’m very much enjoying him while we have him. I’m sure there will be concrete interest at some point from a club high enough up the food chain to turn his head, and frankly if he’s done the job with us to attract that then you would have to say good luck to him. The good thing for us supporters is MA and the owners will know this, and will know that he has to continue to be backed sufficiently to help meet his own ambitions here.

Even Super Kieran McKenna can't get us into the Champions League in 2024. You must have meant 2025. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

As I've said before, we hired a fully-trained Prem-level coach in League One. But also one who (possibly from his Youth experience) knows how to - and is prepared to - work with and develop the players at hand, rather than wanting to bring in a whole new squad. He's bang up to date on the latest methods and procedures, plus having experience of man-management with top-level people. I'm pretty sure that the pressure and intensity at ManU is at least at the level Ashton and the Americans are striving to run ITFC, so he's used to that. Even some of the most experienced managers we've had (like McCarthy) had not worked at teams quite the level McKenna has, albeit as an Assistant not in his own right. Keane had, but did not possess the skills on the management side. Ipswich's most successful managers - Ramsey, Robson, Burley - were all relatively inexperienced, but had ideas and ability.

Probably because he explains things to them in detail, so they understand both what and why. Makes it easier to put the ideas into practice.

I think he's shown the ability the learn quickly and go about his business well. As I said all through the season even during the iffy run, I think he'd be a better manager in the championship than league 1 with better players to play his way. Which showed with the Jan additions of Higher than league 1 quality players. So I'm quite excited for this or next season tbh. He will have higher quality players playing the way he wants to play which will be enjoyable to watch but also successful I believe.

This group of players on 11:30 - Jul 20 with 1437 views | Dyland | "... work hard, are humble, and professional." He says the P word so often, and this, applied to the whole group of players, is the single biggest factor in pushing on now. When McKenna signed his new deal a load on here said it was probably the most important signing of the window, and hard to disagree. From the minute he was announced I thought well this is new for us and exciting, and he's exceeded expectations. The cynics will say we could afford to invest and that was the draw, along of course with the Town history and traditions and inherent foundations to build on as an upwardly mobile club, but of course that's the case, a football and business reality these days, and Ashton really does deserve praise for getting McKenna in. EDIT: Adding that (young) players, whether on loan or permanent, want to play for a very highly thought of coach, as will any parent club. E.g. Hirst and the relatively low fee. McKenna is worth his weight in gold. Trying not to get excited, but... COYFB [Post edited 20 Jul 2023 11:37]
